Director, Development
Per Scholas is seeking a proven, results-driven Director of Development to join our national development team and lead fundraising efforts for our Maryland campuses in Silver Springs and Baltimore. This role will focus on securing transformational 6 and 7figure gifts while also diversifying revenue streams through philanthropy, corporate partnerships, government funding, and earned revenue opportunities.
The Director will drive annual fundraising targets of $35M with a clear growth trajectory to triple revenue by 2030. Success will require building a balanced, sustainable funding portfolio that includes major gifts, multi-year institutional investments, and innovative earned-revenue models aligned with Per Scholas' mission.
The ideal candidate is a strategic, entrepreneurial leader with demonstrated success in securing large-scale gifts, cultivating senior-level partnerships, and leveraging sales / earned revenue opportunities alongside traditional philanthropy.
What You'll Do
Fundraising Strategy & Revenue Growth
- Design and execute a comprehensive, diversified revenue strategy to reach annual goals of $35M, scaling to $912M by 2030.
- Secure 6 and 7figure philanthropic gifts while also partnering with national teams on major gifts, earned revenue opportunities, corporate sponsorships, and fee-for-service partnerships.
- Partner with campus Managing Directors and national leadership to ensure revenue strategies align with organizational priorities and long-term growth.
Portfolio Leadership & Donor / Partner Management
Lead cultivation and stewardship of a robust portfolio of corporate, foundation, government, and individual funders.Partner with the Sales team to grow earned revenue and corporate sales opportunities, including workforce partnerships, sponsorships, and other revenue-generating collaborations.Represent Per Scholas at high-stakes meetings and events, serving as a trusted partner and ambassador for the organization.Sustain long-term strategic relationships by demonstrating clear outcomes, financial accountability, and mission alignment.Proposal Development & Storytelling
Develop and deliver compelling proposals, pitches, and business cases that secure philanthropic and earned revenue investments.Translate complex program data and workforce outcomes into persuasive narratives for donors, funders, and business partners.Ensure proposals and reports are timely, accurate, and responsive to funder and partner expectations.Collaboration & Internal Leadership
Manage up and laterally by influencing senior leaders and peers to advance fundraising opportunities.Partner cross-functionally with program, finance, and communications teams to create data-driven budgets, impact reports, sponsorship packages, and sales collateral.Serve as a solutions-oriented leader, presenting thoughtful options and recommendations when addressing challenges.Advisory Board Engagement
Engage Advisory Board members as fundraising and business development partners, leveraging their networks and influence.What You'll Bring
Professional Qualifications
7+ years of progressive revenue-generating experience in fundraising, business development, or corporate partnerships, with demonstrated success securing 6 and 7figure gifts.Proven track record of building diverse, sustainable revenue portfolios that include philanthropy, corporate sales / earned revenue, sponsorships, and government grants.Strong knowledge of the DC / Maryland philanthropic and corporate community.Exceptional relationship management and influencing skills, with ability to engage senior executives, funders, and high-net-worth individuals.Expertise in proposal writing, case-making, and pitching to both philanthropic and business audiences.Highly data-driven and results-oriented, with a history of meeting and exceeding revenue targets.Proficiency with Salesforce or other CRM tools; strong financial acumen to manage forecasts and revenue tracking.Willingness to travel 1520%.Personal Attributes
