The Opportunity
Custom Manufacturing and Engineering, Inc. (CME) is seeking a Quality Engineer with a sharp eye for detail and a passion for problem solving. In this role, you will ensure that materials, parts, and products meet CME's rigorous Total Quality Management System (TQMS) standards and customer requirements. You will own key quality engineering activities across production and test, SMT, and configuration management, and lead data driven process improvement to maintain CME's certifications and quality excellence.
What You Will Do
- Perform in process and final inspections and testing to verify compliance with TQMS and customer requirements.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions, including containment, permanent fixes, and effectiveness validation.
- Use statistical and analytical methods to identify trends, quantify risk, and drive measurable process improvements.
- Develop and maintain quality engineering tools such as control plans, inspection plans, and process documentation.
- Support MRB activity by analyzing nonconformances, recommending dispositions, and tracking recurring issues to closure.
- Support First Article Inspection processes in accordance with AS9102, including documentation and evidence packages.
- Conduct measurement system analysis such as gauge R and R and ensure calibration and metrology practices support reliable data.
- Apply and sustain 5S principles on the floor and in work cells, with hands on involvement in organization, standardization, and sustainment.
- Prepare for and help CME pass third party certification audits (AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO IEC 17025, CMMI).
- Interpret specifications, drawings, schematics, and part lists for electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.
- Generate clear technical reports and dashboards on product and process quality using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Apply EIA 649 Configuration Management principles (preferred).
What You Bring
Experience supporting AS9100 environments and working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO IEC 17025, and CMMI (required).Must have SMT manufacturing knowledge and demonstrated hands on experience analyzing and resolving process variances to deliver repeatable CCA quality production.Proven ability to lead structured problem solving efforts such as 8D, 5 Whys, or fishbone analysis.Working knowledge of statistical tools such as SPC, Cp and Cpk, and trend analysis.Ability to read and interpret technical specs, schematics, and part lists.Strong analytical and computer skills for reporting, data trending, and documentation.Familiarity with electrical, electronic, or mechanical components and how quality ties into build to print requirements.Experience with metrology, gauge R and R, and calibration control.Experience with EIA 649 Configuration Management (preferred).BS or BA in Engineering or related field (preferred).Why CME
