Job description

Position Title : Technical Specialist V Cybersecurity Level II

Location : Suffolk, VA

Clearance Requirements : Secret (Top Secret Eligible)

Position Status : Contract

Pay Rate : Competitive

Position Description : Join a dynamic team as a mid-level systems engineer supporting the Joint Training DevSecOps pipeline core infrastructure and data center. In this cybersecurity-focused role, you will contribute to mission-critical operations by managing virtualization environments, server operating systems, and automation processes. This position is 100% onsite and offers an opportunity to collaborate in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting while advancing your expertise in DevSecOps, cybersecurity, and systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Install, configure, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and vSphere Client.
  • Manage datastores (VMFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel) and implement software-defined storage solutions like VMware vSAN.
  • Install, configure, and administer server operating systems, such as Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP) and Linux distributions.
  • Apply OS-level patches, security updates, and ensure compliance with security baselines.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to server performance, operating system failures, network connectivity, and application interactions within virtual machines.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell / PowerCLI for Windows / VMware, Bash / Python for Linux) to streamline server and VM management tasks.

Required Skills / Education :

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in :
  • Virtualization technologies, including VMware vSphere (ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, HA, DRS, vSAN); experience with Microsoft Hyper-V is a plus.

  • Operating system administration for Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP) and Linux systems.
  • Automation and scripting using PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python, and / or Bash.
  • Enterprise-level server hardware and data center infrastructure.
  • Networking protocols and concepts (TCP / IP, DNS, VLANs, basic troubleshooting).
  • Storage technologies (vSAN, SAN, NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS).
  • IAT Level II Certification (one of : CySA+, Security+, CCNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, SSCP).
  • Functional area certification (e.g., Windows, Linux, VMware, CCNA, Network+) required prior to start.
  • Preferred : RHCSA (Red Hat Certified System Administrator) or RHCDS (Red Hat Certified Datacenter Specialist).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced team environment supporting joint training missions.
