Traffic Operations Officer
The Traffic Operations Officer is a non-sworn, part-time position within the Police Department and is assigned to provide pedestrian and vehicle traffic control for over 120 special events per year. The Traffic Operations Officer / Senior will also provide California Vehicle Code and West Sacramento Municipal Code violation enforcement within the city and assist in emergency circumstances such as traffic collisions.
An official City of West Sacramento application form must be filled out, in its entirety. It is the applicant's responsibility to explain their qualifications fully and clearly. Incomplete information on the application, resume and / or supplemental questionnaire may be cause for disqualification. Application packages will be reviewed and screened for qualifications.
Additional screening criteria will be developed based on the supplemental questionnaire. Depending upon the number of qualified candidates, an oral panel interview may or may not be held. The top candidates will be referred to the department for further consideration.
The Traffic Operations Officer enforces appropriate State and local codes, laws, and regulations as they pertain to on-street parking, and provides traffic control for special events.
Receives general direction from the Police Chief or designee. Does not exercise supervision over other employees.

The Traffic Operations Officer will also provide California Vehicle Code and West Sacramento Municipal Code violation enforcement within the City.

Education and experience : Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skill. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be :
Licenses and certificates : Possession of a valid California Drivers License; possession of, or ability to obtain, Standard First Aid certificate.
Special conditions : Prior to assignment at the Police Department, must positively pass a background investigation, a fingerprint check and drug screen. The background investigation is required on all non-sworn Police Department personnel who will have access to the California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) equipment. The City of West Sacramento will require documentation of a candidate's identity and authorization to work in the United States prior to finalization of employment.
Working conditions : Position will be required to wear a uniform per the West Sacramento Police Department's Policy and Procedures. Physical demands : Incumbents must have the ability to sit at a desk or in a vehicle for long periods of time; safely operate a motor vehicle; intermittently twist, bend, squat, reach, walk and stand in an office and / or field environment; stand and walk for long periods of time in field environment; climb stairs, ladders, or in / out of trailers while in the field; perform simple and power grasping; pushing and pulling; fine manipulation; lifting of up to twenty-five (25) pounds; manual dexterity to use standard office equipment and supplies including a keyboard; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and by telephone and / or two way radio.
Extra Help positions with the City of West Sacramento are designated Tier I or Tier II extra help employees. Those hired as Tier I extra help employees must work less than 1,000 hours in a fiscal year and are not eligible for any City provided benefits, other than those required by law. Those hired as Tier II extra help employees are scheduled to work beyond 1,000 hours in a fiscal year, but not more than 1,500 hours. Tier II extra help employees receive pro-rated vacation, sick leave, and holiday benefits and are enrolled in the citys CalPERS retirement plan. The City does not participate in full Social Security, but does participate in Medicare. Extra help positions are considered "at will" positions.
