Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Design custom structural test fixtures that meet customer statement of work requirementsCreate fixture concepts based on requirementsDevelop a design from concept through completion based on discussions with the internal engineering team and end user / customerInterfaces with customers and the engineering team to translate design needsParticipate in and conduct initial and ongoing design reviewsSelect appropriate structural material based on engineering analysisUse Autodesk Inventor to create drawings of machined parts, weldments, schematics and top and sub-assembliesCreate drawings to commercial standards that can be used for fabrication and assemblyPrepare bills of materials that include fabricated parts, standard hardware, and applicable test instrumentationApply tolerances to ensure parts are produced with the desired fitDemonstrate a basic understanding of data acquisition systems and hydraulic / pneumatic control systems.Familiarity with various fabrication methodsPrepare fabrication plan and fixture assembly proceduresAct as the technical contact for the fabricators and assemblers during the production phase of projectsSupporting quoting efforts for Design / Fabrication as neededCollaborate with Project Managers to status ongoing projectsProvide project engineering support during all aspects of the test programManage test programs. Some of the areas of testing include structural testing, armament, pressure, and windblast.
Coordinate required resources and schedule required to conduct testingInterface with customersWrite test procedures and test reportsTravel as required within the continental USOvertime will be required during certain periods of a projectRequired Qualifications :
BSME or comparable4+ years' experience working as a Design EngineerCurrently hold an FE certification and eligible to go for a PEA PE licensure will eventually be requiredStrong proficiency using Autodesk Inventor / Assembly handling or equivalent softwareExperience in mechanical CAD design (Autodesk Inventor), ability to perform simple design hand calculations, fixture design, and especially fixture design for testing productsKnowledge of FEM / AnalysisMust be a US Citizen and able to pass a drug test and background checkExpertise in defense, aerospace, telecom, commercial, and / or automotive product qualification requirementsAbility to read and interpret test specificationsMust be computer literate, including MS OfficeMust be able to work in a fast-paced work environmentAbility to work without supervision and to provide technical consultation and guidanceExperience managing labor and resource schedulesStrong communication skills, both written and verbalDemonstrated technical innovation / guidance, project management, and problem solvingAbility to work without supervision, with latitude for independent action and decision makingPreferred Qualifications :
Experience in using FEM software like ANSYS is a plus but not requiredExperience with CNC machining beneficial but not requiredDayton T. Brown, Inc. offers :
