Seasonal Position For Tax Collection Help

Job Description

Performs a variety of routine to complex clerical tasks designed to expedite the receipting & collection of property taxes received by the County Treasurer's office.

Duties / Responsibilities

Essential :

  • Processes property tax payments;
  • Balances tax payments to cash received;
  • Answers questions and provides information to general public by phone and at counter.
  • Performs all duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
  • Answers incoming phone calls and greets walk-in customers, provides referrals to other departments or staff as needed in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Responds to Commissioners', elected officials', County employees' and citizens' questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;
  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate co-workers to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality in all cases;
  • Assists other departments and County employees as needed or requested.
  • Performs all work duties and activities as assigned in accordance with County policies, procedures, and safety practices.

Qualifications

Knowledge of :

  • Customer service procedures, techniques, and objectives;
  • Operation of a computer and basic software applications.
  • Knowledge of standard office procedures;
  • Ten-key skills;
  • Typing skills (40 wpm).
  • Must be bondable;
  • Skill and Ability to :

  • Provide effective customer services with patience and accuracy;
  • Perform duties with accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Listen and follow verbal and written instructions;
  • Use good judgment to make reasonable decisions to respond to customer service needs;
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Acceptable Experience and Training :

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • One year's experience in an office, preferably in the public sector; or
  • One year tax receipting experience preferred, but not required;
  • Must successfully pass background investigation relevant to the position and remain in good standing for the duration of employment with the County.

Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing abilities required by this classification includes those which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively in person and by telephone. While performing the duties of this classification, the employee works in an office setting where the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
