Job description

The Gateway GN&C Performance Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX.

The candidate who fills this position will work on the JETS Gateway GN&C and Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) Team providing GN&C performance evaluations and requirements verification of Gateway Space Station.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

Verify GNC system requirements compliance through review of analysis and test reports, including assessment of navigation sensor performance, trajectory dispersions, and other GN&C parameters.
Verify fault tolerance safety requirements compliance through review of GN&C-related hazard reports and associated verification evidence. Communicate uncovered issues to a Safety Review Panel.
Identify and recommend solutions to GN&C / Rendezvous & Proximity Operations performance issues.
Communicate status of compliance reviews to Gateway Program Management.
Conduct assessments on delivered Visiting Vehicle GN&C data.
Provide performance compliance feedback.
Provide Monte Carlo trajectory analyses feedback using independent 6DOF simulations.
Provide engineering inputs to operational products (flight rules and on-orbit demonstration plans).
Maintain relationships with a diverse technical team, including personnel from engineering, safety, flight operations, crew office, and visiting vehicle providers.
Other duties as assigned.

This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.

This position requires space industry or DoD work experience.

Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering .

Must have 5+ years of recent and related work experience.

Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles.

Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and analysis of spacecraft system performance.

Experience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C hardware and software.

Experience with the development of space system requirements and documentation.

DESIRED :

MS in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C, flight controls, and orbital mechanics.

Familiarity with spacecraft docking systems.

Knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standards and requirements, including safety and fault tolerance.

Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures.

Familiarity with NASA / JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites.

Experience with LINUX, Python, and C++.

Experience with MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes.

Experience with NASA Trick simulation architecture.

Experience with JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics) modeling package.

Experience with Git / GitLab.

WORK LOCATION :

This position is located onsite and offers a 9 / 80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.

Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and / or customer needs.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED :

All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS :

Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

Able to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.

Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.

Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).

Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
