Job description

The Gateway GN&C Performance Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX.

The candidate who fills this position will work on the JETS Gateway GN&C and Rendezvous, Proximity Operations, and Docking (RPOD) Team providing GN&C performance evaluations and requirements verification of Gateway Space Station.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Verify GNC system requirements compliance through review of analysis and test reports, including assessment of navigation sensor performance, trajectory dispersions, and other GN&C parameters.
  • Verify fault tolerance safety requirements compliance through review of GN&C-related hazard reports and associated verification evidence. Communicate uncovered issues to a Safety Review Panel.
  • Identify and recommend solutions to GN&C / Rendezvous & Proximity Operations performance issues.
  • Communicate status of compliance reviews to Gateway Program Management.
  • Conduct assessments on delivered Visiting Vehicle GN&C data.
  • Provide performance compliance feedback.
  • Provide Monte Carlo trajectory analyses feedback using independent 6DOF simulations.
  • Provide engineering inputs to operational products (flight rules and on-orbit demonstration plans).
  • Maintain relationships with a diverse technical team, including personnel from engineering, safety, flight operations, crew office, and visiting vehicle providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information.
  • This position requires space industry or DoD work experience.
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in the field of engineering .
  • Must have 5+ years of recent and related work experience.
  • Experience with orbital mechanics and GN&C principles.
  • Knowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and analysis of spacecraft system performance.
  • Experience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C hardware and software.
  • Experience with the development of space system requirements and documentation.
  • DESIRED :

  • MS in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C, flight controls, and orbital mechanics.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft docking systems.
  • Knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standards and requirements, including safety and fault tolerance.
  • Experience with NASA flight operations and procedures.
  • Familiarity with NASA / JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites.
  • Experience with LINUX, Python, and C++.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes.
  • Experience with NASA Trick simulation architecture.
  • Experience with JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics) modeling package.
  • Experience with Git / GitLab.
  • WORK LOCATION :

  • This position is located onsite and offers a 9 / 80 schedule with every other Friday off; some travel may be required.
  • Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and / or customer needs.
  • BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED :

    All Bastion employees must be able to pass a national agency check and some positions require clearance and will require an extensive background verification / check process.

    DRUG AND ALCOHOL SCREENING REQUIRED :

    All Bastion employees must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and are required to participate in periodic random drug and alcohol screenings.

  • Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

  • Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
  • Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
  • Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
