WinCo Foods Retail Position
Consistently provides friendly and cooperative service to internal and external customers at our retail locations which operate 24 hours / 7 days per week with limited exceptions, by processing customer orders in an efficient, accurate, safe and courteous manner at a two aisle check stand, a multi station self-checkout (SCO) lane, or customer service desk as assigned. Generally works 6-8 hour shifts between 5 : 00 am and 1 : 00 am.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities include :
- Seeking opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers. Maintaining an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer.
- Operating check stand equipment such as a cash register, scanner and scale to process customer orders using two aisles to check customers.
- Engaging in suggestive selling and other sales techniques.
- Processing monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, travelers checks, food stamps, processing coupons, and refunds. Understanding and adhering to all Cash Handling and Lane Accountability policies and procedures.
- Maintaining knowledge of current product location, monitoring UPC codes and ensuring proper pricing.
- Maintaining clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensuring safe and secure work area.
- Stocking, pricing and rotating merchandise.
- May be assigned to a multi station self-checkout lane as needed.
- May be assigned to the customer service counter as needed.
- Performing other duties as assigned or needed.
- Following all state and federal laws concerning the sale of any restricted or regulated items (i.e. tobacco, alcohol)
- Adhering to all United States Department of Agriculture Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures.
Additional Self-Checkout Attendant Duties and Responsibilities include :
Regularly moving within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards.Initiating and engaging contact with customers as they process their transactions.Responding to SCO stations to accurately review, address and clear alerts and / or errors with customer transactions.Monitoring multiple simultaneous transactions and verifying payment in fast paced setting.Actively and routinely engaging with customers at self-checkout kiosks to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy, and limit shrinkage.Maintaining a high level of awareness of the self-checkout area and customers; anticipating customer needs, monitoring transaction activity, making regular eye contact with customers, observing bottom of the basket, etc.Prioritizing safety of employees and customers by addressing or reporting concerns as provided by Company policy.Requirements include the ability to :
Work varied shifts in a 24 / 7 operation; including night, weekends and holidays.Perform friendly, courteous, tactful relations with customers and co-workers with composure.Communicate (hearing and speech) to perform customer relation tasks.Complete written forms.Conduct visual inspection, read information on merchandise, etc.Lift and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to 20 lbs. frequently and perform repetitious work accurately.Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.Operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners, and scales.Stand or sit for long periods of time, walk rapidly, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently for long periods of time.Be 16 years of age or older.Have manual dexterity and good hand / eye coordination.Learn and memorize a considerable amount of information including PLU codes, location of products, check stand and keyboard procedures and company policies.Ensure accuracy in scanning and verifying sales and handling monetary transactions with mental alertness and basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide).Occasionally use blades for box cutting.Use household cleaners to maintain work area (i.e., approved all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, etc.).Navigate and manage potentially high stress situations, volatile or unsatisfied customers, and a high volume of transactions and customers.Additional requirements may include food safety / handlers cards, tobacco and alcohol sales certification (e.g., TAM card) as required by applicable state and local laws.
For minors hired, hours may differ as well as machines and equipment operated.
