JOB SUMMARY

The Career / Vocational Specialist will collaborate with Anti Trafficking Mobile Teams to ensure that the survivor’s career and educational goals are fully met. The Anti-Trafficking Career and Vocational Specialist works with each individual survivor to determine career and educational opportunities. The Anti-Trafficking Career and Vocational Specialist recognizes and affirms the survivor’s strengths, resulting in exposure to a broad range of career options, establishing realistic career pathways, and building the confidence necessary to overcome challenges. This includes developing job opportunities and educational possibilities for clients and providing information and planning services to help clients meet their goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Developing and implementing effective coaching strategies to help participants overcome employment and vocational-related challenges by affirming strengths, centering survivors’ interests, and providing agency and choice.
  • Provide age-appropriate educational and vocational assessment and counseling; identify survivor’s strengths and assessing and increasing a survivor’s knowledge of their own skills.
  • Deliver information on suitable career paths based on survivor's skills, qualifications, interests, and experience, and prepare individualized career plans for program participants.
  • Provide career exploration and counseling programs that include basic job readiness trainings that focus on developing “soft” or practical skills such as teamwork, critical thinking, professionalism, conflict resolution, digital literacy, and communication training.
  • Provide workshops on basic computer skills and opportunities to obtain industry-recognized certifications such as Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Certification, resume building, application submissions and interviewing skills, workplace ethics and behaviors, networking, and effective communication skills.
  • Implement skill-building and work readiness to include experiences such as volunteer work, internships, job shadowing and apprenticeship and community leadership opportunities in teamwork with the Vocational Specialist.
  • Increase self-efficacy and belief in personal future success, self-navigation abilities, and increase awareness, access, and utilization of available services
  • Assists survivors during employment assignments to improve soft skills as well as build vocational skills; provides feedback and guidance to ensure employment is successful.
  • Serve as support for implementing and facilitating remedial education, English to Speakers of Other Languages services, tutoring and GED prep.
  • Monitors on-site job coaching and works with supervisors at partner job sites to ensure that any issues are addressed as quickly as possible.
  • Monitor and document participants progress toward meeting education and career / vocational goals.
  • Develop a strong knowledge base and stay current on job-related issues and research for employment trends, interviews, resumes, career planning and other projects as assigned.
  • Complete documentation as required by funding entities, courts, and referral sources.
  • Other VOCA allowable duties related to crime victims’ services as identified and required.

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least two years of experience in workforce development, public vocational rehabilitation, career coaching and workshop development and delivery, job placement, job coaching, or other related experiences, as well as working with diverse populations, exploited persons, and / or marginalized ethnic groups. Experience with career and personality testing is desirable.
  • Bilingual preferred with the ability to write and speak fluently in English and Spanish.
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as rehabilitation, social work, psychology, education, human resources business, or administration.

  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Perform under strong demands in fast-paced, diverse, sometimes ambiguous environments.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of child welfare issues to include trauma-informed care best practices and its implementation to include the use of Motivational Interviewing.
  • Ability to build effective professional working relationships internally and externally.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written; attention to detail, and ability to multi–task and stay organized under tight deadlines.
  • Presents him or herself outside the agency in a manner in keeping with the agency’s core values and guiding principles.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Perform at a high level of autonomy, with general supervision and work flexible hours and days as needed.
  • Computer and systems skills including experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel to clients within the community to provide services, including in clients home.

  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

    This job requires the ability to work in stressful conditions from time to time and remain focused for extended periods of time. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds (boxes, documents, and / or equipment).
