Description :
This position involves floating within a designated zone.
The nurse will be assigned to various units including general medical-surgical and telemetry.
Common patient populations include adults and geriatrics with a range of diagnoses.
Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 5-6 based on patient acuity.
Heparin drip titration is required as part of the role.
Charge nurses will be designated on each unit.
They typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary.
Nursing aides are present on the unit.
The equipment required includes respiratory therapy devices.
Schedules are made by leadership for six weeks at a time.
Flexibility is expected to help fill gaps in permanent scheduling.
All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.
There is a requirement for 6-9 weekend shifts in a six-week schedule.
Holiday rotation may be required.
Low census may require call or standby, but this is rare.
Units may be assigned through a scheduling communication method.
Scrubs can be worn in any color.
This position does not have a home base facility.
Float assignments may include work at sister facilities.
Charts will be maintained using an electronic medical record system.
