Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is committed to enhancing the quality and reliability of clinical care provided to patients. The Quality Improvement Lead develops and executes strategic quality plans within the designated areas to assure Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center continues to be innovative and world renowned in its approaches to quality and world class care.

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Quality Program Coordination, the Quality Improvement Lead identifies and implements strategic and service-line specific quality initiatives that support all levels of patient care within the organization. The Quality Improvement Lead applies specialized clinical quality improvement knowledge and sophisticated analytical skills to lead an innovative quality management and improvement program supporting performance metric achievement in alignment with organizational goals. To achieve these goals, the Quality Improvement Lead evaluates patterns, trends, and processes to improve the quality of care for patients across the Health System. Working with multidisciplinary teams and leveraging comparative clinical data, including internal and external benchmarking, the Quality Improvement Lead identifies gaps and facilitates clinical process improvement initiatives to meet target clinical goals and outcomes. Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, the Quality Improvement Lead independently leads multiple, broad-scope, highly complex process / quality improvement initiatives in the designated area(s) of responsibility.

Position Summary

The Quality Improvement Lead will report directly to the Associate Director of Quality Program Coordination with guidance from the Quality department Senior Director, Directors, and Associate Directors. The Quality Improvement Lead is responsible for developing and executing multifaceted, service line- and area-specific strategies for clinical quality improvement and quality program monitoring and evaluation, including adherence to regulatory standards. Within the designated areas of responsibility, the Quality Improvement Lead is responsible for ensuring consistency and rigor in assessing performance toward quality metrics, leading the development of gap closure strategies in collaboration with clinical leadership, and promoting process / quality improvement principles.

The position will leverage process / quality improvement tools and frameworks, change management strategies, and data analysis skills, as well as strong leadership, coaching, and project management skills to influence meaningful, data-driven change. The position will apply clinical environment knowledge and advanced understanding of the aforementioned concepts to lead complex projects of large scope. The clinical performance improvement solutions and best practice innovations the position proposes may set precedent and are expected to have substantial and long-term positive impact on patient outcomes, clinical goals, and related process metrics. The position will lead multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions to complex problems, communicating difficult concepts and influencing leadership decision-making on topics that positively impact clinical outcome goals.

The Quality Improvement Lead will be independently responsible for leading the following as related to the designated service lines and areas of responsibility, supporting all levels of patient care : (1) identification and prioritization of clinical quality improvement gaps / opportunities and target goals based on comparative clinical data, including internal and external benchmarking; (2) facilitating process improvement data collection, analysis, evaluation, and report dissemination; (3) seeking out and leveraging evidence based best practice to inform service line specific action plans; (4) facilitating the clinical performance improvement process, including identification, prioritization, and coordination of iterative improvements and implementation efforts; (5) monitoring the effectiveness of change management and improvement strategies and revision of them as needed to achieve target clinical goals and outcomes.

The position will independently coordinate communication within and between multidisciplinary key collaborators and stakeholders; ensure appropriate consultation and education regarding data analysis and improvement opportunities; identify, recommend, and implement improvement plans that move toward target clinical goals; and develop large scope, precedent setting processes and clinical performance improvement mechanisms leading to best practices for clinical quality outcomes within the designated areas of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a clinical field. Clinical licensure.

2 years of relevant experience required. 4-6 years of relevant healthcare quality management experience preferred.

Strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, organizational and facilitation skills.

Strong knowledge of industry trends, best practices as they relate to the delivery of high quality and safe health care.

Strong project management experience and experience using variety of quality tools (e.g., DMAIC, Lean Six Sigma, PDSA).

Demonstrate solid history of achieving results with complex and dynamic teams.

Strong computer skills, including basic knowledge and use of Microsoft Office products.

Ability to learn new systems software.
