REPORTS TO : Sustainability, Energy & Environment Program Director

ACADEMIC / NON-ACADEMIC : Non- academic

POSITION OVERVIEW :

Sustainability Intern resides in the Facilities Management Department within the Operations Division of the Boston Public Schools, reporting to the Sustainability, Energy & Environment Program Director. The Sustainability Intern will support the Sustainability Team with on various projects including, but not limited to existing bike infrastructure audits, drinking water infrastructure audits, installing drinking water signage, and the Arc energy database.

RESPONSIBILITIES : General

  • Bike Infrastructure - Perform audits at all BPS schools of existing bike infrastructure taking photos and notes onsite as necessary. Compile data into central spreadsheet along with recommendations for future infrastructure additions and improvements
  • Collaborate with the Boston Transportation Department and Safe Routes to Schools team on creating and implementing bike programs
  • Drinking Water Infrastructure Audits - Perform audits at all BPS schools of status of newly installed drinking water infrastructure, documenting any maintenance needs.
  • Note number of water coolers and bottled water storage crates and make suggestions for right sizing based on existing infrastructure
  • Installing Water Signage - Remove dated water signage and replace with redesigned signage at all sink and fountain locations at all BPS Schools.
  • Assist with data entry into Arc Skoru platform in order to track schools' environmental performance

Shift Type - The Sustainability Intern will complete 5 - 20 hours per week for 8 weeks, in person either out of the Central Office at Campbell Resource Center, or onsite at BPS locations

Salary - $25 / hour

Location - Central Office - Facilities and Capital Management
