Job description

We are currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our client in the Construction & Engineering domain. Duration : Full-time

Location : Charlotte, North Carolina

Salary : $120,000-$135,000 / Annually

Role : Senior Mechanical Engineer

Primary Skills : Engineering

Role Description : The Senior Mechanical Engineer must have 10+ years of experience. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide design of systems and equipment associated with the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and new technology initiatives.

Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Senior engineers act as mechanical discipline leads providing technical support for various projects and initiatives.
  • Senior engineers will not have direct reports but will assign work to other engineers and designers.

Duties / Responsibilities :

  • Perform designs and mechanical analyses through calculations basic to Mechanical Engineering with direction from a Senior Mechanical Engineer, if necessary.
  • Sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of mechanical drawings.
  • Coordinate the mechanical design effort by acting as Lead Mechanical Engineer for projects by :
  • Directing the efforts of assigned engineers and designers for the layout of equipment, etc.

    Checking mechanical drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project,

    Developing specifications / requisitions for support of purchasing effort, and

    Review and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents.

  • Provide technical support for the Aftermarket, Inspections, & Purchasing departments with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of mechanical equipment.
  • Provide direction and technical support for designers.
  • Analyze design and vendor supplied equipment for adherence to engineering specifications, required codes & standards, and project requirements.
  • Check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.
  • Develop new technology designs and incorporate larger systems.
  • Review designs and assist other Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.
  • Travel to fabrication workshops and job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant & fabricator personnel, perform on-site inspections and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e., operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.).
  • Travel on business trips and / or field assignments as required to carry out departmental, project, & corporate tasks and functions.
  • Write Technical Specifications for mechanical equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc.
  • Provide support to the Sales and Estimating groups in preparation of proposals, including sizing and selection of equipment, plant layout, and engineering man-hour estimates.
  • Work as a team player"" with all company departments and employees in all assignments.
  • Work toward building consensus on all assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.
  • Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and Clients.
  • Propose and design equipment design improvements.
  • Provide mentorship to mechanical engineers and designers.
  • Skills / Abilities : Required :

  • Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft and Autodesk products.
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines.
  • Excellent base of mechanical engineering technical skills and knowledge of processes.
  • Ability to use mechanical engineering principles for complex problem solving.
  • Preferred :

  • International travel experience.
  • Industrial plant experience.
  • Computer aided simulation / analysis of Mechanical Equipment designs (FEA, CFD, Heat Transfer, etc.)
  • Design of Dust Collection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.
  • Design of industrial Fire Protection systems with adherence to NFPA and local codes.
  • Utilize design software for piping and gas system analysis / layout.
  • Design and troubleshooting hydraulic systems.
  • Piping design and stress analysis including selection of pipe hangers and supports.
  • Material Handling system specification, layout, and design.
  • Water Treatment systems specification, layout, and design.
  • Specification, startup, and troubleshooting of water pump systems.
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree; Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Technology Degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in an industrial or technical environment, preferably related to steel industry.
  • Travel Requirements :

  • 10% -25% International and Domestic based upon project demands.
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to move around a project site, including climbing structures.
  • Education : Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Industrial Engineering Degree.

    Experience : Minimum 10+ years of experience

    Relocation : This position will cover relocation expenses

    Travel : 10%-25% International and Domestic based upon project demands

    Local Preferred : Yes

    Note : Must be able to work on a W2 basis (No C2C)
