Director Of Community Engagement And Strategic Partnerships

The Director of Community Engagement and Strategic Partnerships leads Seattle Children's community engagement strategy across Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho, aligning efforts with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals. This role serves as the primary liaison to community partners, neighbors, and regional stakeholders, fostering positive relationships and advancing advocacy initiatives. Key responsibilities include managing community-focused communications, coordinating advisory boards, supporting capital projects, and collaborating with internal teams to strengthen outreach and engagement efforts. The Director also oversees budget planning for community relations efforts. A flexible schedule is essential, as the role involves evening and weekend events. The Director oversees community relations strategies and community advocacy efforts to achieve the following goals :

  • Community Relations, Events : The Director will serve as the primary liaison to Seattle Children's neighbors and community partners, including all areas where Seattle Children's provides service / has a footprint (Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho). The Director will partner with External Affairs leadership and other internal partners at Seattle Children's on the landscape of community supporters, risks, and strategies for community engagement to promote dialogue and facilitate positive relationships between Seattle Children's and the community. The Director will develop efforts that mitigate opposition that would adversely affect the Seattle Children's enterprise. The Director helps develop and implements research, project plans, events, and other communications in support of defined priorities and objectives. The Director identifies and strategizes on risks and opportunities in the landscape of community relations.
  • External Affairs Community-focused Communications : The Director will partner with External Affairs leadership and other key business partners to establish an External Affairs community engagement strategy that includes the leveraging of new and existing communication platforms. Implementation may involve the creation and distribution of community-centered materials to community partners, including neighbors and neighborhood associations, non-profit organizations, and business organizations. This role will compose and edit a broad range of written materials for External Affairs leadership and Seattle Children's stakeholders.
  • Internal Stakeholder Relationships : Community Relations is an integral part of strategic decisions and planning processes. The Director will serve as thought partner to the Vice President of External Affairs to develop and strengthen community engagement connections and strategies for Seattle Children's. This position will formulate and advance approaches to address community relations strategy through partnerships, neighbor / community engagement, and advocacy efforts. The Director collaborates with other organization business partners including, but not limited to, Real Estate, Capital Programs, Facilities, Research, Transportation Services, Legal, Marketing and Communications, to identify, implement, and direct programs that strengthen Seattle Children's relationships with the communities we serve throughout the WAMI region.
  • Advisory Groups / Steering Committees : The Director will oversee the implementation and coordination of External Affairs engagement vehicles, such as the inaugural Community Advisory Board, and will advise on long range community engagement planning around regional system priorities and Capital projects.
  • Leadership Team Responsibilities : The Director is part of the External Affairs Leadership Team, which is collectively responsible for achieving External Affairs programmatic goals, and incorporating external-facing engagement strategies.
  • Budget Management : The Director will plan, monitor, and align fiscal resources with community engagement opportunities.

Required Education and Experience :

  • Master's degree and / or equivalent education and experience in public administration, public health, political science, communications, social service administration, or related area.
  • 10 years of experience managing advocacy, community engagement programming, and / or community relations efforts.
  • Compensation Range : $157,290.00 - $235,936.00 per year

    Salary Information : This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.

    Disclaimer for Out of State Applicants : This compensation range is specific to Seattle, positions located outside of Seattle may be compensated differently depending on various factors.
