Position Summary :
The Director of Sterile Processing is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD). This role ensures all surgical instrumentation and equipment are properly decontaminated, assembled, sterilized, stored, and distributed in accordance with established policies, standards, and regulatory requirements. The Director promotes a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement while collaborating with perioperative services and other departments to ensure efficient workflow and optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities :
- Provide strategic leadership and day-to-day management of all sterile processing operations.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, AAMI, AORN, CDC, and regulatory agency standards.
- Oversee decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution processes to maintain a consistent flow of sterile instruments.
- Develop, implement, and monitor departmental goals, policies, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with surgical services and other departments to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments and equipment.
- Manage staffing, scheduling, and training programs for SPD team members to promote skill development and professional growth.
- Maintain accurate records of sterilization and equipment tracking for quality assurance and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee budget preparation, inventory control, and equipment procurement.
- Foster a safe and efficient work environment, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on sterile processing standards and best practices.
Required Education :
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Nursing, or completion of a Two-Year Surgical Technology CourseRequired Licensure / Certification :
Current Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)IAHCSMM Certification requiredRequired Experience :
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Sterile ProcessingMinimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in Central Sterile ProcessingDemonstrated knowledge of operating room instrumentation and equipmentStrong understanding of aseptic technique and infection control principlesExcellent leadership, communication, and technical skillsProven ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain attention to detailProficiency in computer operation and sterile processing management systemsTo Apply :
