Position description

The Department of Music at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary instructors to teach a range of courses in the area of Ethnomusicology.

These courses include, but not limited to the following :

The Music 130s series. These courses are devoted to the study of musical practices around the world. Such courses may consist of lectures with either discussion sections or performance labs dedicated to offering hands-on instruction in support of the lectures.

Some music cultures, such as Music 131A, Music of India, have dedicated course numbers. Music 139 : Topics in Musics of the World is a generic course which can cover any one of a wide range of musical practices.

We also welcome courses that focus on musical cultures of the world other than those mentioned above.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.

g., syllabus), and interacting with students outside of class time via email and / or bCourses. Some courses may require supervision of discussion sections taught by graduate students.
