JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARD – Accounting Supervisor (Accounting Team Leader)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS : The following attributes are desirable for job success : Responsible for supervision of 2-4 Property Accountants, ensuring that all properties in their team’s portfolio have timely & accurate cash management, accounting & financial reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Responsibilities include but are not limited to :
1) Supervision of a team of Property Accountants, which may include Property Accountant IIs, and Senior Property Accountants.
2) Ensure that the team’s financial statements are accurate and distributed by the due date. Review the financial statements produced by the team to include :
a. General Ledger revie
b. 12 Month Statement / Budget Comparison review
c. Balance Sheet Reconciliation review
d. Bank Reconciliation review
e. Additional reporting ( HUD or owner-specific reports) review
3) Training of new Property Accountant
4) Ensure that all bank reconciliations are reviewed by the 15th of the month, and that the Bank Reconciliation Review Worksheet is updated by this time. Ensure that prior month items clear in the current month.
5) Ensure that Replacement Reserve Draw requests are completed properly and submitted in the months following the calendar quarter. Ensure that the Replacement Reserve Draw Worksheet is updated when requests are submitted and again when funds are received. Let Controller know of any properties whose lender is not adhering to the loan agreement when reimbursing reserve funds.
6) Serve as back-up as needed for the team or for fellow Accounting Team Leaders.
7) Serve as Property Accountant as needed for new properties, or when needed due to short-term staffing shortages.
8) Communicate team or site accounting issues / challenges immediately to Controller & Asset Management.
9) Look for ways to increase efficiency in the accounting department and communicate to Controller.
10) Ensure that the team’s Quarterly Site Bonus Worksheets are completed accurately and by the due date.
11) Verify that the team’s financial reporting packages are distributed to the appropriate parties, and that the packages and bank reconciliations are saved to the server monthly. (Financial packages saved on the 15, and bank reconciliations saved by the 24.)
12) Save other appropriate information to the HRP dataserver as completed.
13) Provide Yardi accounting support to site teams as needed
14) Provide training and support to the team so that they fulfill their obligations as Property Accountants, and can grow to PA II, Senior PA, or Accounting Team Leader.
15) Support Controller with special projects, including but not limited to, end of year tax entries and 1099 distribution.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS : The Accounting Team Leader reports directly to the Controller and supervises a team of Property Accountants, which may include Property Accountant IIs and Senior Property Accountants. Works with Community Managers, Regional Managers, corporate team members, and outside vendors.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Hours of Work : 8 : 00am / 8 : 45am to 5 : 00pm / 5 : 45pm Monday through Friday. Hybrid work location. This position provides the best of both worlds with in-office scheduling for support, career growth, and team building with the flexibility of remote work options on alternating Fridays plus tenure-based floating remote days.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : Supervises a team of Property Accountants, which may include Property Accountant IIs and Senior Property Accountants.
COMMUNICATION : Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with Property Accountants, Team Leaders, Controller, Community Managers, Regional Managers, corporate team members, and outside vendors.
EXPERIENCE : 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience and / or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least one year of experience as a Property Accountant.
EDUCATION : Bachelor Degree in Accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT TESTING : : Drug testing and background screening. Successfully complete pre-employment psychological and basic skills exam, including interest patterns.
COMPUTER SKILLS : Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel. Yardi Voyager knowledge preferred.

Professional business attire is required on non-casual days. Corporate employees should wear dresses, dress slacks and dress shoes that are business appropriate. No sleeveless blouses should be worn without a jacket.
