Job description

MalaceHR is seeking a Facilities & Building Maintenance Technician to support operations at a commercial research and development facility. This is an entry-level maintenance role ideal for candidates with 1–3 years of facilities or building maintenance experience who are looking to grow their skills in a professional environment.

The technician will assist with the maintenance and operation of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general facility infrastructure. This position offers hands-on experience working alongside senior technicians while performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting building issues, and ensuring the facility remains safe, functional, and well-maintained.


Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Support

  • Perform routine building inspections and maintenance rounds.

  • Assist with preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, lighting systems, and building infrastructure.

  • Complete general facility maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repairs.

  • Support maintenance of facility safety equipment such as emergency eyewash stations and other building safety systems.

Work Orders & Documentation

  • Complete work orders and maintenance logs accurately in the CMMS system.

  • Assist with inventory tracking and parts procurement.

  • Document completed maintenance activities including materials used and time spent.

  • Maintain organized storage areas for tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices.

  • Adhere to facility safety standards and operational procedures.

  • Participate in required safety training and emergency response drills.

  • Identify and report safety hazards or potential issues immediately.

Learning & Development

  • Work closely with experienced technicians to develop technical maintenance skills.

  • Participate in training programs related to building systems and facility operations.

  • Continue developing knowledge of facility maintenance best practices.


Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in facilities maintenance, building maintenance, or a related field preferred

  • Entry-level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude may be considered

Skills

  • Basic troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and building systems

  • Familiarity with hand tools and basic maintenance equipment

  • Basic computer skills for work order systems and documentation

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures

  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

  • Willingness to learn and develop technical maintenance skills

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

  • OSHA 10 certification

  • EPA Section 608 Type I or II Refrigerant Certification


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly

  • Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, facility spaces, and outdoor areas

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights with proper safety equipment

  • Capable of standing, walking, climbing ladders/stairs, kneeling, and bending for extended periods

  • Manual dexterity required for detailed maintenance tasks


Work Environment

  • Full-time position with standard first-shift hours

  • Work performed in facility, laboratory, mechanical, and utility areas

  • Occasional overtime may be required for facility needs

  • Periodic on-call support may be required for building operations
