Role overview

As Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), you will be the senior nursing executive responsible for the vision, strategy, and execution of all nursing practice across the hospital. You will lead the organization's Magnet journey and drive the systems, culture, and outcomes required to achieve and sustain high performance in both Magnet and Leapfrog domains. This is an opportunity to leave a lasting legacy by transforming a large, complex, public facility with centers of excellence including an NYS Stroke Center and Level 2 Perinatal Center.

  • Compensation Package

    To succeed in this role, you must bring recent, hands-on system-level leadership in nursing and quality :

  • Licensure : Active, unrestricted New York State RN license (or eligibility and ability to obtain prior to start).
  • Education : Master's degree in Nursing Administration or related field required; doctoral preparation (DNP, PhD, or equivalent) preferred.myamericannurse+1
  • Recent CNO leadership : Minimum of 5 years of recent Chief Nursing Officer experience in a full-service (not solely acute-care) hospital setting, with accountability for hospital-wide nursing services.
  • Magnet journey experience, leapfrog process.
  • Direct leadership through at least one Magnet designation or re-designation survey cycle , including readiness assessment, document submission, and site visit preparation.
  • Demonstrated success building or strengthening shared governance and clinical ladder structures that support professional practice and nurse retention.
  • Leapfrog and safety performance : Experience driving improvements in hospital safety and quality metrics, ideally including prior exposure to Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology and interdisciplinary patient safety initiatives.
  • Leadership track record : At least eight (8) years of nursing experience, including a minimum of six (6) years in progressive leadership (director level and above), with evidence of :

  • Transformational change management in complex environments.
  • Collaborative partnerships with physicians, unions (if applicable), and front-line staff.
  • Measurable improvements in quality, safety, nurse engagement, and patient experience.
