As a Construction Inspector II, you will perform inspection work for projects to ensure compliance with codes, regulations, contract requirements on construction projects. You will evaluate, assess, and resolve issues at the field level and coordinate construction activities with project stakeholders. There are two openings : SEA Airport night shift (8pm to 5am) and Terminal 91 / Fishermen's Terminal Day shift (7am to 4pm and occasionally covering Tidal shifts).

  • You will coordinate and conduct on-site testing, special inspections, and verify field measurements / quantities for contract payments.
  • You will monitor Temporary Erosion and Sediment Control (TESC) and enforce quality assurance / control programs.
  • You will manage material deliveries and delivery logistics.
  • You will participate in managing and inspecting the project punch list process.
  • You will coordinate complex Utility Shutdown Requests, resolving potential impacts with customers, tenants, and Port departments.
  • You will prepare and maintain project documentation, including inspection logs, daily reports, and other construction records.
  • You will update design plans / drawings to reflect changes during construction.
  • You will document non-compliant contractor work and initiate Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process.

Who you are :

  • Experienced - You have four (4) years of experience in construction, general or special inspection, or other construction field work.
  • Desired - We hope you have an associate's degree or vocational program in pre-engineering, construction management or building inspection.

  • Proficient - You have proven expertise in various construction operations, methods, materials, costs, and equipment, with advanced knowledge in multiple construction disciplines or specialization in one. You understand construction methods, engineering and architectural design principles, building codes, and specifications. You are skilled in interpreting construction drawings, specifications, project schedules, Request for Information (RFIs), Change Orders, constructability reviews, and contracts, identifying non-compliance with contract provisions. You also have knowledge of office and construction site practices, as well as Port and project-specific policies and procedures.
  • Efficient Communicator - You possess well-developed verbal and written communication and active listening skills. You have a proven ability to organize, maintain, and update project documentation and records. You can also effectively interact, coordinate, and communicate construction activities with a variety and diverse groups of clients, customers, contractors, tenants, general public, and employees in a professional manner.
  • Adaptable - You possess an adaptable style and approach in response to changing environments, and different perspectives, needs, or demands. You can work effectively in situations involving uncertainty or lack of information and response flexibly to change.
  • Analytical - You can engage judgment and experience to define, analyze, and resolve problems. You can recognize potential problems and resolve them in a timely manner or escalate to supervisor / manager for resolution. You can also exercise sound independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
  • Leader - You can train staff in work procedures and techniques and to lead others and effectively influence people without direct authority.
  • What else you need to know :

  • Driver's License - You will need a valid Washington State Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one, is required to travel locally to project sites.
  • Work Schedule - SEA Airport night shift schedule Monday - Friday, 8pm to 5am, Terminal 91 / Fishermen's terminal day shift Monday - Friday 7am to 4pm and occasionally covering Tidal shifts (both shifts are 40 hours per week). You may be required to work any and all assigned shifts, including weekends and holidays. You may be required to work during emergencies.
  • Work Environment - You will generally work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. You may be exposed to areas of high noise, various hazardous materials, work at heights and / or in confined spaces.
  • Washington State Residency Requirement - Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
  • Overtime Eligible - You are eligible for overtime pay in this role.
  • Safety Requirements - You will be required to comply with all work rules, safety, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a Port of Seattle ID badge upon clearance.
  • Security Requirements - As the successful candidate, you must obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within the first three months of employment.
