  • Job Summary

    The Groundskeeper Senior will perform installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems and related components. This position assists with construction and landscaping activities for the maintenance of grounds, garden areas and public outdoor spaces as needed. Provides lead direction and training for completion of work assignments and performs a full range of grounds and landscape maintenance tasks.

    Essential Functions

    45% - Performs maintenance, repairs and installation of irrigation systems : irrigation clocks, valves, lines, sprinklers and drip systems.

    25% - Performs and provides lead direction for work assignments of irrigation and grounds maintenance / landscaping work (involving mowing, raking, sweeping, blowing, digging, watering, trimming, pruning, power washing, planting, transplanting, cultivating, watering, applying herbicide / pesticide, fertilizing etc).

    10% - Utilizes computer for email and work orders and manages watering schedules in a commercial irrigation system (currently online).

    10% - Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance on grounds-keeping equipment.

    10% - Operates lawn tractor, front-end loader, trenching machines, street sweeper, forklift, pickup and dump trucks; Performs related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Completion of formal or informal education or experience which assures the ability to read, write, and speak at a level sufficient for the successful completion of the job duties as described and two (2) years of work experience related to the duties required of this position.

    Special Requirements

    Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications :

  • Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver’s License (Class D)
  • State license / certification for the application of pesticides / herbicides may be required to be obtained within one (1) year of employment for some assignments. If applicable to the assignment, the maintenance of this certification / license for the duration of employment within this classification is required, including the timely completion of Continuing Education Units (CEUs) required by the State and / or issuing authority
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years of irrigation experience installing, operating, inspecting, repairing and / or maintaining irrigation clocks, valves, lines, sprinklers and drip systems)
  • Two or more years of experience in setting and maintaining programs of irrigation controllers.
  • Two or more years of lead or supervisory groundskeeper experience.
  • Possesses a current State of Arizona OPM Applicator’s License for herbicide / pesticide
  • Special Working Conditions

  • Heavy manual labor outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes from automotive exhaust, paints, chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Subject to inclement weather involving rain, heat, cold, etc.
  • Exposure to pests such as bees, mosquitos, flies, rodents, etc. is common.
  • Required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch or crawl, lift, climb, balance, talk and occasionally required to sit.
  • Required to work with light to heavy noise levels.
  • Required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs.
