Job description

Stantec’s Buildings team is on a mission to become the world’s leading integrated design practice. Our architects, engineers, interior designers, consultants, sustainability specialists, and technologists are passionate about the power of design. Through a collaborative culture and an innovative, sustainable approach to projects, we create buildings that improve lives and strengthen communities.

In healthcare, this mission carries particular meaning. Our healthcare teams bring together deep national expertise to create resilient, high-performing environments for care.

Together, we are enhancing the quality of life globally through design.

Join us and design your place with Stantec.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Houston Healthcare practice is growing, and we are seeking an Architect with healthcare project experience to join our interdisciplinary Buildings team.

In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of complex healthcare environments including hospitals, ambulatory care centers, specialty clinics, and medical office buildings. You will work closely with healthcare clients, clinicians, and multidisciplinary design teams to translate clinical operations into thoughtful, high-performing environments that support patient care.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative design practice that values innovation, mentorship, and the ability to shape the future of healthcare environments.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including architects, engineers, consultants, and healthcare planners.

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to develop project schedules, coordinate deliverables, and manage project milestones.

  • Participate in clinical user group meetings and planning sessions, translating operational and clinical needs into architectural solutions.

  • Develop architectural documentation across all project phases including site planning, departmental layouts, plans, sections, details, and coordination of building systems.

  • Utilize BIM technologies to develop and coordinate three-dimensional models of healthcare facilities and complex building systems.

  • Coordinate design with internal teams, consultants, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.

  • Ensure project documentation complies with applicable healthcare codes, accessibility standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Coordinate preparation of project specifications and ensure alignment with construction documentation.

  • Participate in bidding and negotiation phases including preparation of addenda and responses to contractor inquiries.

  • Perform construction administration activities including submittal review, RFIs, site observations, and documentation of field conditions.

  • Conduct constructability reviews and support design solutions that balance patient experience, operational efficiency, and technical performance.

  • Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews to maintain project design quality.

  • Manage multiple project priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of design and client service.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong interest in healthcare architecture and complex technical building types.

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary design teams and healthcare stakeholders.

  • Ability to contribute to projects through all phases of design and construction administration.

  • Experience translating clinical operations and user needs into effective design solutions.

  • Working knowledge of healthcare codes and regulatory frameworks including IBC, NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code), NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code), ADA/Texas Accessibility Standards, and Texas Health & Human Services licensing regulations, with familiarity with FGI Guidelines for healthcare planning and design.

  • Understanding of healthcare building systems including MEP infrastructure, infection control considerations, and specialized clinical environments.

  • Strong understanding of architectural documentation and coordination between drawings and specifications.

  • Ability to identify challenges and develop creative, practical design solutions.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to support project budgets and schedules.

  • Proficiency in Revit, Newforma, Bluebeam, and other tools used to communicate and develop architectural ideas and documentation.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Architecture or Bachelor’s degree meeting licensure requirements.

  • Registered Architect in Texas preferred. LEED accreditation a plus.

  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, preferably including healthcare projects such as hospitals, ambulatory care centers, or medical office buildings.

  • Experience with healthcare design and planning strongly preferred.

Please include a copy of your portfolio along with your resume for consideration.
