What You Will Do

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.

  • Monitor functionality and performance of equipment. Including vacuum pumps, high temperature furnaces, gas scrubbers, instrumentation, chemical feed systems.
  • Apply principles of physics, mathematics, and material science to design and evaluate sub-system prototypes when equipment / system deficiencies are identified.
  • Initiate and manage all phases of projects from design to installation and verification
  • Develop predictive maintenance program, and critical spares inventory to minimize un-planned down time of equipment
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production to enhance material performance, eliminate quality turn backs, escapes, and reduce overall product costs
  • Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S / Ergonomics / Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues as processes transitions into production.
  • Create and implement strategies for automation to improve quality and minimize process cost
  • Conduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actions
  • Support a 24 / 7 operation as required

Qualifications You Must Have :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • 5 years of engineering experience, or an Advanced Degree with 3 years of engineering experience
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program / contract.
  • Qualifications We Prefer :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or Material Science
  • Experience developing new processes and successful transition to production.
  • Extensive experience in installing and operating electro-mechanical production equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence
  • Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challenges
  • Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements

    Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee’s personal responsibility.

  • This role is also eligible for the Re-Empower Program.   • The salary range for this role is 85,000 USD - 179,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education / training, and key skills.Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays.
