Operating Engineer

What this job involves:

At JLL, we are seeking a skilled Operating Engineer to join our team where you will be empowered to thrive while advancing your engineering career. In this role, you will lead the maintenance, production, and quality assurance of machinery and equipment with minimal supervision, ensuring optimal uptime operation. You'll be responsible for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems and equipment. This position may include assisting the Chief Engineer in providing team direction and leadership. This is an on-site position, with local market requirements that may vary slightly.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Complete diverse maintenance tasks including painting, pressure washing, lighting system maintenance, plumbing, HVAC systems, water treatment, locksmith work, and general facility maintenance
  • Ensure optimal operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by performing preventive and corrective maintenance on chillers, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and infrastructure supporting production equipment
  • Assist in supervising and implementing the comprehensive preventative maintenance program
  • Maintain accurate records in the work order system (CMMS) and promptly address service requests
  • Troubleshoot various systems including electrical, DDC, and pneumatic controls
  • Support on-call rotations and respond to emergency situations as needed
  • Provide training and supervision to help expand the capabilities of the Engineering team
  • Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to safety procedures, rules, and regulations

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of related work experience in repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or carpentry in an industrial setting
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • Ability to read and follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • Physical capabilities including lifting up to 50 lbs, using ladders up to 30 feet tall, and frequently climbing, bending, kneeling, and driving
  • Strong customer service skills and communication abilities
  • Commitment to safety protocols and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Trade school education, union training, military service, or college education
  • Universal CFC EPA certification (or willingness to obtain within first year with JLL assistance)
  • Experience with building automation systems
  • Knowledge of energy conservation practices
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
