At CoreCivic, we do more thanmanage inmates, we care for people. CoreCivic is currentlyseeking  Psychiatrist  who have apassion for providing the highest quality care in an institutionalsetting.

The Psychiatrist manages theoperation and provides overall direction and leadership for theprovision of the mental health services in the facility. Thisposition has the primary responsibility of providing administrativeand clinical coordination for the comprehensive mental health careprogram for theinmates / residents.

The successful applicant should be able to perform ALLof the following functions at a pace and level of performanceconsistent with the actual job performancerequirements.

Report to assigned facility at designated hour toprovide direct patient care and associated clinicalduties.

Participate in civil commitmentproceedings.

Assess and provide a DSM diagnosis asappropriate.

Prescribe and monitor psychotropicmedications.

Provide a variety of professional services to includecounseling, disease processand

central, orderingnecessary lab work and reviewingresults.

Supervise and provide mentorship to other facilitybased mental health staff.

Assess the needs of mental health services, collect andmaintain statistics and dataand

prepare necessaryreports pertaining to mental healthservices.

Evaluate and recommend methods of improving operationalefficiency and cost

effectiveness of mental health relatedservices.

Accept on callstatus.

Provide direct casework services and individual, groupand family counseling to

inmates / residents and theirfamilies.

Assist in developing and implementing treatment andtherapeutic programs for assigned inmates / residents; assistinmates / residents to understand and overcome social and emotionalproblems.

Prepare progress reports; provide recommendationsregarding discharge plans; make case presentations; and assistadministrative and medical staff in development of statisticalreports on assignedinmates / residents.

Serve as mental health staff liaison in groupcounseling, volunteer activities andother

events designed topromote mental health services toinmates / residents.

Assist in supervision of inmates / residents, both withinthe facility and while in

community activities; promote positive communityrelations and utilizecommunity

services, as needed.

Maintain and monitor confidentiality ofinmates / residents and their files; audit filesto

determine that allservices provided are documented; review status ofinmates / residents to verify that all treatment and therapeuticprograms are completed.

Assist in coordinating professional services providedby contract personnel, if applicable, and provide for that theirneeds to be addressed.

Prepare and maintain a variety of standard narrative,statistical, summary and / or

operational records, reports and logs, usingappropriate grammar, to includefiling,

alphabetizing andlabeling; review reports and records produced by staff.Properly

process all reports and documents in a timelymanner.

Attend scheduled staff meetings, group meetings andother staff and groupactivities

essential for effective program and service deliveryand to promote communications and the proper flow of relevantinformation between administration, staffand

inmates / residents.

Utilize established corporate, facility andcorrectional policies and procedures in making decisions, butperform with a high degree of independence and professionaladministrative skill and use sound independent judgment in meetingthe responsibilities and performing the duties of theposition.

Review, process and respond (via corporate counsel) tolawsuits; attend court hearings, whennecessary.

Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret technicalprocedures or governmental

regulations, legal and non-legal documents, includingthe processing of such documents as medical instructions,commitment orders, summons and other legalwrits.

Communicate effectively and coherently toadministration, staff,inmates / residents,

visitors and the general public, particularly insituations requiring tact,diplomacy,

understanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment.This includes giving information, instructions and directions;mediating disputes; advising of rights and processes; and providingreliable testimony, in court and other formalsettings.

Maintain equipment and supplies as required, orderreplacement items in a timely manner via the purchase ordersystem.

Endure verbal and mental abuse when confronted with thehostile views and opinions of inmates / residents and others, e.g.visitors and family members, encountered inan

antagonisticenvironment.

Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies anddisasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid,physically removing people away from dangerous situations, andsecuring and evacuating people from confinedareas.

Take appropriate action to prevent or diffusepotentially disruptivesituations.

Experience exposure to body fluids, wastes andexperience encounter with deceased or contagiouspersons.

Endeavor to comply with the requirements of applicableregulations, laws, rules,

procedures, policies, standards and / orcontract.

Beaware that verbal abuse may be present with the hostile views andopinions of inmates / residents and others encountered in anantagonisticenvironment.

Establish and maintain effective working relations withothers and handle difficult

interpersonalcontacts.

Define problems, collect data, establish facts and drawvalid conclusions.

Participate in in-service and other training programsas required.

Report to assigned facility at designated hour toprovide direct patient care and associated clinicalduties.

Maybe assigned the duties of any position in an emergencysituation.

Remain alert at all times and react quickly,efficiently and calmly in emergency and other high stresssituations.

Qualifications :

Graduate from an accredited college or university withan advanced degree in psychology, or an appropriate degree in arelated clinical area and appropriate certification or license (ormeet educational requirements for licensing in the state ofemployment, ifgreater).

Five years clinical experience, which includes twoyears in a comparableposition.

A valid driver’s license isrequired.

Minimum agerequirement : Must be at least 18 years ofage.
