variable up to 15 hours/week position ABOUT THE COLLEGE: Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical, 15% Adult Basic Education, 3% Applied Bachelor degrees. Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw. Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. The Studio Lab Technician will be responsible for developing, coordinating and providing professional and technical support services within the studio art program. Technical responsibilities include maintaining the drawing and painting studios, equipment and materials. Professional support services include assisting students and art faculty with studio activities, classes and projects. The studio Lab Technician will have/be:
Experienced with drawing and painting studio equipment operation, art materials, material handling and maintenance.
Creative and innovative.
Attentive to safety and security.
Decisive and strong verbal communication skills.
Attentive to detail.
Attentive to student and faculty needs.
Personal motivation to contribute.
Able to navigate GRC Canvas system to access online course materials and respond to online student inquiries over email or Zoom.
A high degree of personal and professional integrity and respect for confidentiality.
Position Responsibilities
Facilities Oversight The Studio Technician will:
Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets and logbook.
Maintain required health, safety, and security practices in the studio.
Work with facilities, IT and other departments when support is needed.
Oversee daily operation of the studio space to include regular maintenance, repairs, material stocking, cleaning and organization.
Manage, repair and maintain studio furniture and equipment (such as easels, props, model changing room, lights, sinks, fume hood, tables, taborets, model stage, paint waste, material storage, etc.)
Set up, prep and clean up materials and equipment used during classroom activities and open studio hours. (For example, managing set up, preservation and take down of still life, lights and model stages.)
Maintain student lockers and checkout procedures.
Maintain supply inventory and organization.
Evaluate and recommend equipment or materials for purchase.
Student Support The Studio Technician will:
Maintain open studio hours and schedule. (Physical studio as well as Zoom hours.)
Assist and advise students individually in the studio as needed. (For example, this may require an equipment or material handling demonstration or answering questions about projects or schedules or helping students to spray fix or photograph their work.)
Photograph, document and archive digital student work samples.
Communicate with students over zoom or email.
Manage the collection, safe keeping, display and return of student work as well as manage the disposal of work left behind.
Check off completed student sketchbook work.
Aid in and/or devise student support activities or programs (for example, managing the artist of the week display, moving and hanging work for student exhibitions, printing signs, managing pay-it-forward materials kits or coming up with other projects or programs to support the student experience in the studio.)
General Duties:
Assist visual art faculty.
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum of two years of college course work in Art/Photography or related field or equivalent experience.
The studio tech should be able and willing to work with people from varying backgrounds and skill levels. The studio tech needs to be professional, compassionate, and patient while maintaining sensibility and awareness of Green River's diverse student population.
