Position DescriptionResponsible for writing grant / technical / proposals assigned by the Administration and Faculty. These proposals, requesting contributions, are submitted to individuals, corporations, foundations, and governmental entities. Responsibilities include assignments from, as well as, coordinating the efforts of faculty and staff to produce high-quality grants proposals.
Major / Essential FunctionsThe primary responsibility of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) Institutional Advancement (IA) Grant Writer is to oversee the process and production of all materials related to the grant application process from identifying and qualifying prospects, writing proposals and reports, working with departments to collect data, budgets, and all relevant documents for submission. This position will work closely with the Office of Research and Innovation to collaborate on grant submissions requiring a 501(c)(3) status and facilitated through the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc. on behalf of TTUHSC. This position will report to the Assistant Vice President of Institutional Advancement (AVPIA).

Continually educate and seek out new opportunities as well as communicate them to IA leadership.Stay up to date with university policies related to gifts, sponsorships, sponsored research, and in-kind donations.Lead grant proposal development and submission - preparing and organizing materials for proposals, and submitting and monitoring grant applications. Research, write, compile, and manage the timeline of all grants and proposals to institutional donors (corporations and foundations) including maintenance and oversight of workflow processes and procedures to ensure accurate and efficient collection and timeline submission. Maintain a detailed grants calendar (including all processes of a grant lifecycle including report submissions) and accurate records in the TTUS donor and alumni database and other shared systems. Serve as main writer for all grant applications and proposals submitted through TTUHSC's IA office - work collaboratively with frontline fundraising staff on submissions as relevant.Conduct prospect research on new opportunities that align with TTUHSC's mission. Contribute to strategy and planning meetings. Collaborate with AVP of Institutional Advancement, Office of Research and Innovation, and TTUS to research, identify, and prioritize potential funding opportunities. Draft and edit high-quality, compelling letters of inquiry and grant proposals.Work across departments to collect and synthesize data. Ensure all grant reporting of data is accurate. Timely and accurate submission of grant reports to donors according to their reporting timeline / schedule.Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and foundations' requirements for grants. Serve as compliance lead for all grants received through TTFI.Work closely with TTUHSC IA team members to respond to requests for special reports, collaterals, and non-grant materials for use to advance donor strategy. Identify and develop strategy to steward and engage donors through additional high-quality deliverables outside of required grant reports.Hold a small portfolio of foundation donors - serve as a team contact to TTUHSC institutional donors (i.e. foundation and corporate donors). Develop and foster relationships with public and private grant makers.Review and submit proposals requiring charitable non-profit status routed for approval through TTUHSC's Office of Sponsored Projects under the Office of Research and Innovation. Work with Office of Research and Innovation to submit grants approved by OSP and requiring charitable status.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in English, journalism or related field. Four years experience in proposal / technical writing. Education and experience can exchange on a year-for-year basis.
