The Driver Helper assists the Waste Management Truck Driver in the collection and disposal of residential, commercial, and industrial waste. This role involves physically demanding tasks such as lifting, loading, and emptying trash bins and recycling containers into the truck. The Driver Helper ensures that the collection process is efficient and safe, adhering to all company policies and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities :
Assist Driver : Support the truck driver by helping with the collection of waste along the assigned route. Provide directions and monitor traffic to ensure safe driving conditions.
Loading and Unloading : Manually load waste materials, trash bins, and recycling containers into the truck for disposal. Ensure all containers are emptied and properly placed back at the curb.
Safety Compliance : Follow all safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to traffic laws when operating in residential and commercial areas.
Customer Service : Interact with customers politely if needed, answering questions or addressing concerns regarding waste collection.
Efficiency : Work efficiently to maintain schedules and meet deadlines, ensuring all assigned routes are completed in a timely manner.
Equipment Operation : Assist with operating hydraulic lifts and other truck equipment to empty large containers (training will be provided).
Route Assistance : Communicate with the driver to ensure that all stops are serviced, and report any issues such as blocked access or container damage.
Cleanliness : Maintain cleanliness of the truck, both inside and outside, and report any maintenance or repair needs to the supervisor.
Requirements :
Physical Fitness : Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs, walking and standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
Experience : Prior experience in waste management, delivery, or manual labor is a plus but not required. On the job training will be provided.
Safety Awareness : Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for working in traffic and handling waste.
Team Player : Ability to work well with drivers and other team members to complete tasks efficiently.
Communication : Basic communication skills to interact with drivers, supervisors, and customers when necessary.
