Staff Mechanical Engineer – Innovative Surgical Robotics
Location- Houston, Texas
Position Overview
We are seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer with proven experience in robotics to design, develop, and implement advanced robotic systems for medical applications. This role requires deep expertise in robotic system design—from concept through deployment—with the ability to independently architect and drive solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills, hands-on engineering ability, and a passion for mentoring and collaborating with other engineers while creating life-changing technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robotic systems, including robotic arms, motion stages, and supporting mechanisms.
- Architect complete robotic solutions, including kinematic structures, actuation schemes, and transmission mechanisms, ensuring precision, safety, and reliability.
- Drive robotic system design from concept through testing, validation, and production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate medical workflows into system-level requirements.
- Develop prototypes, conduct testing, and perform system-level verification and validation (V&V).
- Produce detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Participate in risk management (including FMEA) and implement risk control measures.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering technical growth and knowledge sharing.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure high-quality component delivery.
- Stay current with advancements in robotics and medical devices to drive innovation.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in products and processes.
Required Skills & Experience
Proven hands-on experience with robotic systems (industrial, surgical, automation, or related).Ability to independently design and deliver complete robotic systems from concept to production.Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.Experience with FEA and other simulation tools.Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.Demonstrated ability and willingness to mentor junior engineers and technicians.Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.Minimum of 7 years in design and manufacturing of regulated products (medical devices, automotive, aerospace), with strong robotics experience.Preferred Qualifications
10+ years of mechanical and robotics design experience in regulated industries.Hands-on experience in lab / production settings; able to assemble, troubleshoot, and optimize robotic systems.Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and tooling.Familiarity with regulatory standards (FDA, ISO) for medical devices.Proficiency in written and verbal English.Why Join Us?
