ABOUT THE POSITION
The Campus Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of all members of the Lewis & Clark community and the security of all Lewis & Clark College property.
This position responds to emergencies and resolves situations effectively, independently or with the assistance of internal or external resources.

Comprised of three distinct campuses, each with its own academic focus, Lewis & Clark offers a well-rounded educational experience.
The undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) provides a vibrant, liberal arts education, while the Graduate School of Education and Counseling (GSEC) and the Law School offer specialized programs to prepare future leaders in their respective fields.
One notable feature of Lewis & Clark College is the shared Campus Safety department, which serves as a common service for all three campuses.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
Patrol
Vehicle and foot patrol of campus property to observe campus conditions, preventative measures to deter crime.
Security
Building security, including physically locking and unlocking doors, managing access for digital card reader locks, and after hours access to secured areas.
Enforcement
Enforcement of college policy and State and Local laws, specifically related to smoking policy, drug and alcohol policy, and safety related policies.
Investigation
Investigating policy violations and crimes on campus, including theft, graffiti, criminal mischief, public intoxication, mayhem.
Reporting
Writing detailed reports of policy violations and / or crimes on campus, determined by severity of the violation or crime.
First Response
First responder to medical and other emergencies, including, but not limited to : simple first aid, determination of medical / hospitalization necessity, mental health crisis, weather or natural disaster related, chemical spills, fire.
Responding to alarms (intrusion, fire, trouble and panic)
Service
Public service, including assisting visitors to campus, monitoring after hours events, escorting employees and students for safety concerns, providing vehicle assistance (for dead batteries, etc), responding to neighborhood complaints.
Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and / or at Lewis & Clark College.
MUST HAVES
High School Diploma; Some job related experience preferred but not required, such as college campus safety, park rangers, private security officer.
NOTE : a college degree may be substituted for some job experience.
Working knowledge of local, county and state laws and regulations
DPSST certified / or the ability to be certified.
First Aid / CPR / AED certified : or complete certificate within 30-days of hire.
Valid driver’s license
Ability to comprehend information that leads to a conclusion of policy violation and / or criminal act
Ability to determine the procedures needed to resolve criminal acts and / or policy violations

On-call basis; as needed

$25 per hour
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Moderate amount of lifting of light weight (up to 15 lbs.) to medium weight (15 to 35 lbs.), climbing or working in physically tiring work
Bending, crawling, kneeling / squatting, twisting, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, standing, driving, sitting, walking, grasping / gripping, pinching / squeezing, reaching, pushing / pulling, repetitive hand movements, seeing, talking, listening
