Job Description

CantoMundo and the Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing are seeking a candidate with non-profit experience and the desire, vision, and skills to step into the position of Program Manager for CantoMundo.

This is a full-time posting at 40 hours per week with full benefits.

Virginia G. Piper Center for Creative Writing, an endowed center for creative writing at Arizona State University (ASU), entered a partnership with CantoMundo, a literary organization founded in to support Latinx poets and poetry.

CantoMundo has been groundbreaking in its support of Latinx poetry and poetry. The Piper Center is committed to supporting, sustaining, and growing CantoMundos vision and mission.

This position will frequently interact with Spanish speakers. The ability to speak and / or understand Spanish would be an asset but is not required.

Essential Duties

  • Serve as CantoMundos public-facing leader and spokesperson, partnering closely with fellows, Piper staff, and the Advisory Board to secure and allocate resources to support CantoMundo in carrying out its mission and programs.
  • Mount an annual call for fellowship applications, including selecting applicants to attend an annual 4-day retreat of 25-35 fellows.
  • Coordinate retreat logistics to include communicating with retreat participants, managing interns and / or volunteers, and coordinating retreat activities.
  • Perform outreach and advocacy among the general community of literary organizations, arts leaders, government funders, private foundations, major donors, the Advisory Board, etc.

  • Work with the Advisory Board and outside consultants to facilitate strategic planning and foster an inclusive and diverse community.
  • Maintain internal CantoMundo records and external online presence via website / social media accounts.
  • Oversee CantoMundos financial health, including working with Piper and the ASU Foundation staff, to research and write grants and other development opportunities as needed.
  • Partner with Piper staff and the Advisory board on budget and financial planning.
  • Follow ASU guidelines for best practice accounting policies and procedures.
  • Manage a team of supporting staff, which may include fellows, interns, or volunteers.
  • Maintain social media platforms, Consistent communication of activities and events through Facebook and Instagram.
  • Strong people skills and the capacity to inspire teamwork and collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field AND five years administrative / coordination experience; OR, Master's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND three years administrative / coordination experience;

OR Any equivalent combination of experience and / or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in developing proposals for external funding of projects.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, implementing and evaluating projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes to conduct needs assessments.
  • Experience in designing training materials and presentations to meet needs assessed.
  • Experience in implementing training, session reviews, and follow-up procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of processes for dissemination of results through presentations, reports, and publications.
  • Evidence of effective communication.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and establishing and facilitating work teams.

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop computer; bending, stooping, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
  • May include exposure to external environment / climate conditions including walking on uneven surfaces, climbing and high temperatures.
  • VIDEO : Essential duties may also require location work which may occur in adverse weather conditions.
  • Locations may be interior / exterior in perhaps rugged conditions.
  • Fragile electronic equipment must be transported both manually and with the assistance of portage devices. Operation of video and photographic equipment may be handheld for extended periods.
  • Some equipment, such as lighting and cabling, can be dangerous during operation and setup.
  • Regular review of completed tasks.
