For LBCC’s COVID protocols, please click here . Position Title : Access Consultant Employment Requirement Not Applicable Division / Department : Accessibility Resources Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary : This recruitment will be used to fill two positions.

Supports the Accessibility Resources Director, faculty, staff, and students in designing and delivering accommodations, assessment, and student success strategies to ensure equity, completion, and self-empowerment for LBCC students.

Coaches students to assist with persistence, retention, and achievement goals. Contributes to community learning regarding disability, student potential, universal design, and student success.

Required Qualifications : Education and Experience : Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, or other related areas plus a minimum of two years of full-time professional experience in disability services, case management, instructional support, program support, or a related area.

Note : Relevant experience or additional years of education may substitute for the two years of full-time professional experience requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Experience working with adult learners with disabilities and working in a higher education setting is preferred. Knowledge and Skills : Requires knowledge of disability law (Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Sections 504, and 508) and case law to determine reasonable accommodation, assuring the college complies with those laws.

Current experience with case management practices and post-secondary procedures and policies. Utilizes a coaching model to assist students with persistence, retention, and achievement goals for Accessibility Resources and the institution.

Requires an understanding of confidential record keeping, policies and FERPA regulations and guidelines.

Abilities : Must work effectively with individuals with disabilities and have a working knowledge of learning theory and instructional design practices.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking skills, and use of sound judgment; outstanding organizational skills;

ability to take initiative, balance multiple projects, and work autonomously as a member of a team. Requires understanding, sensitivity, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty, and staff.

Must learn, interpret, explain, and apply knowledge of college and department organization, operations, programs, functions, and unique department terminology.

Requires the ability to interact professionally with all campus partners. Preferred Qualifications : Experience working with adult learners with disabilities and working in a higher education setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Physical Skills and Abilities : Must be able to operate a computer or other office equipment.

Requires the ability to perceive written and oral words and numbers. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone, in person, and electronically.

Working Conditions : Work is typically performed in a busy office. Interacting with individuals who may be experiencing a period of significant stress, those who experience disabilities, and those who are in high states of agitation and challenging situations is common.

Requires travel to communities within Linn and Benton Counties. Extensive time is spent working at a computer. Occasional weekend and evening work may be scheduled.

Essential Duties : In collaboration with the director, leads the planning and facilitating of the implementation of appropriate accommodations, auxiliary aids, and support services for students with disabilities.

Interprets and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments.

Functions as a resource for staff and faculty throughout the college by providing technical assistance and guidance on how to accommodate and ensure equal access for students.

Maintains a caseload of students with a full range of disabilities, with a specific focus on mental health diagnoses and / or any student who is in immediate academic distress.

Conducts intake sessions with prospective, incoming, and / or current students with disabilities. Review diagnostic information and disability documentation to establish eligibility for services.

Engages in the interactive process of developing student access and academic accommodations for classes in online and face-to-face formats.

Teaches students to use and request accommodations to support academic success. Coaches students on communicating with instructors.

Introduces learning strategies and provides academic support or makes referrals to other college resources. Prepares students to self-advocate with their faculty and academic advisors.

Monitors students’ academic success and progress through academic / success coaching principles and / or the use of retention software such as Watermark.

May serve as a member of the CARE Team. Assists overall case management by triaging referrals, coordinating interventions, and tracking students’ completion of recommendations.

Supports an ongoing caseload of students who benefit from a systems approach to student success, wellness, and retention.

Works closely with other campus resources and community support systems to coordinate a timely resolution.

Maintains electronic case files and confidential student records following the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and college policy.

Interprets and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws as they apply to disability and post-secondary educational environments.

Provides liaison services and awareness-building activities for faculty, staff, and administration, including developing and conducting training.

Serve as a liaison to the CARE Team, Title IX, and counseling.

May oversee part-time, non-contracted employees as directed. May participate in staffselection, scheduling, training, professional development, and providing input into appraisals.

May oversee work-study and CWE students.
