About Us :
The (DAS), Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to serve as our GIS Database Administrator (Database Administration Specialist 2)for the Infrastructure Services Division within the Office of Information Technology at DAS.
Led by Director Kathleen C. Madden, the Ohio Department of Administrative Services is the engine of state government, providing innovative solutions and supporting the efficient operation of state agencies, boards and commissions.
The Office of Information Technology at DAS delivers information technology (IT) and telecommunication services to State of Ohio agencies, boards and commissions.
What You'll Do :
On behalf of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Ohio Geographically Referenced Information Program (OGRIP), the position will conduct GIS data collection, validation, quality control, editing, performance tuning and configuration for State Owned Real Property (SORP) data;
maintain and create data models and provide technical Tier II database support and assists with the planning and management of SORP geographic information systems (GIS) databases.
Plans and coordinates map production and data transformation related to SORP. Confers with various land holding agency staff and county government entities to identify state owned lands in GIS format to serve through web mapping applications.
Develops GIS routines designed to ensure data location accuracy.
Responsible for overseeing the timely collection of statewide parcel data from county government entities. Oversees the geospatial parcel data transformation process functions appropriately and data access controls are maintained.
Maintains and develops the statewide parcel data standards, coding schemes, database designs, data documentation, data dictionary, indexing, and data archiving procedures.
Assists with the development of data quality control procedures in accordance with OGRIP GIS best practices.
- Manages & coordinates maintenance and software updates / upgrades of geospatial database systems; administers spatial-database operations including planning, implementation, maintenance & enhancement of GIS databases;
- ensures compatibility of logical database design with appropriate hardware & software; formulates and implements geo-spatial database program policies & procedures;
- sets & maintains appropriate security, access rights & backup procedures for database systems; manages & oversees hardware & software resources associated with databases;
provides technical advice to assist administrators with applicable decision making.
- Support and perform GIS database work on projects with other OGRIP staff; attends meetings as requested by supervisor; conducts research on identified operational problems;
- coordinates works on special projects as requested by supervisor. Performs miscellaneous administrative duties; resolves GIS user operational problems;
- identifies GIS software and hardware needs; assists with contract services and coordinates acquisitions; prepares assessment reports for GIS programs;
engages in and coordinates the training of staff in the use of GIS technologies.
