Position Overview

Commonwealth Club World Affairs (CCWA) seeks a dynamic, passionate educator to serve as Education Programs Manager for our civics education initiative, Creating Citizens.

This is a great fit for someone who believes in the power of civil dialogue to inform and inspire the next generation of civic leaders at home and abroad.

The Education Programs Manager is responsible for creating and implementing a well-coordinated strategy to produce compelling speaker programs for youth and adults;

develop a series of intergenerational dialogues; lead a new Youth Advisory Committee; and maintain current programming and audience development initiatives.

The Manager will cultivate an extensive network of partnerships with civic leaders and youth -serving organizations, prioritizing underserved and economically disadvantaged communities.

As part of a small and collaborative team, this position will act to advance the mission and goals of Creating Citizens and will work collegially and respectfully with peers throughout CCWA, interns, volunteers, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Program Leadership 65%

  • Lead all aspects of program development and production, with relevant topics and speakers targeted towards priority audiences of students, young adults, and educators
  • Deliver a minimum of 6-10 programs annually, onsite, online, and in local communities; includes annual back-to-school educator program + networking event;

Youth Talks; and student-produced speaker series at UC Berkeley.

  • Develop and lead a new series of interactive dialogues for intergenerational audiences
  • Lead initiatives for student scholarship opportunities locally, nationally, and abroad

Audience Development and Partnership Cultivation 20%

  • Develop and lead a new Youth Advisory Committee to help drive Gen Z engagement
  • Meet goals to increase participation by low-income, underrepresented, and marginalized youth
  • Expand partnerships and collaborations with student and administrative groups at local colleges
  • Maintain a growing network of relationships with adult and youth civic leaders, and community-based organizations
  • Collaborate with teams throughout CCWA to develop and expand opportunities for youth and young adults
  • Conduct program marketing and outreach to ensure strong attendance and audience engagement

Additional Expectations 15%

  • Actively contribute to department strategy and planning
  • Evaluate program outcomes against strategic goals and make data-driven recommendations for improvement
  • Maintain accurate records and data, including diversity and inclusion statistics; provide regular reports
  • Provide direction to student Communications and Engagement Intern, when appropriate
  • Purchase, coordinate, and maintain inventory of materials and supplies; process invoices and purchase orders; ensure that purchases remain within budget
  • Attend in-person and virtual programs and functions outside normal business hours, when required
  • Support fundraising and donor stewardship; ensure that programs meet donors’ goals Identifying and cultivating potential funding sources
  • Support projects led by other teams, in service to CCWA goals and strategies
  • Use multiple software platforms to perform functions including project and budget management, constituent relationships, meetings, and internal and external communications
  • Communicate with all stakeholders with confidence, respect, and tact
  • Complete all assignments accurately, thoroughly, and on deadline
  • Other duties as assigned

Necessary Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience developing and leading interactive educational programs; preference for a candidate with formal or informal teaching in civics, history-social studies, democracy education, international relations, or related fields
  • Experience developing and producing live events add specifics as a parenthetical : conceive of, etc.; book speakers, AV, etc.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Gen Z characteristics, interests, and learning needs

  • Experience managing project budgets
  • Learning assessment experience preferred
  • Outstanding written and oral communications
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience with a CRM (Salesforce or other) and email marketing software a plus

Desired Credentials :

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, political science, history-social studies, or related fields
  • Minimum 3 years’ professional experience teaching or leading programs in formal or informal education settings such as K-12 schools, after-school programs, or youth service nonprofits
  • Specific experience with civics education a plus

Compensation

$65-$70,000, depending on experience. This is a full-time exempt position with benefits, including paid employee health, vision, dental, life, and AD&D, a generous holiday and time-off policy, and a team full of interesting and warm people to work with.
