About the Role

As a Senior Application Security Engineer at Confluent, you will collaborate with a team of security architects and engineers to devise and implement the security strategy for our products, both on-premises and in the cloud. Your role will ensure that security practices are integrated throughout the product lifecycle—from design and development to testing and deployment. You will also work closely with product and engineering teams to proactively defend against potential threats.

This role will involve fostering a culture of security awareness across the Engineering, Product, and broader organization, as well as developing software automation solutions to bolster various security operations. The successful candidate will possess advanced technical security knowledge alongside solid software development skills, enabling them to establish and carry out robust security architecture and address security vulnerabilities effectively.

What You Will Do

• Lead and influence software security initiatives across the organization through collaborative partnerships.
• Stay informed about emerging security vulnerabilities and conduct research to assess their relevance, including tabletop exercises as needed.
• Engage in security threat modeling and design reviews to provide early security insights to engineers and product managers.
• Conduct application-specific security reviews, including API security testing and code assessments, to identify vulnerabilities and offer essential guidance to engineers.
• Advance our security automation efforts by developing or utilizing software security tools to scale product security operations.
• Design, create, and implement security frameworks, automation, and orchestration to protect cloud applications.
• Identify opportunities to enhance technology controls to improve visibility and defend against key attack vectors.
