This is a first level supervisory position that oversees the activities of a municipal custody facility. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and overseeing the daily operations of the municipal jail facility, including monitoring, supervising and maintaining custody of inmates, and supervising Custody Officers.

Work is performed independently in accordance with departmental procedures and policies under the general direction of the Custody Sergeant. The incumbent exercises judgment and decision-making in handling sensitive and / or emergency situations.
