The Path Fellowship is a 1-2 year professional experience and training opportunity for artists (all artistic disciplines are welcome to apply) interested in teaching, learning, and public and community-based arts programming.
This fellowship strongly encourages applicants who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, bilingual or multilingual, and individuals with disabilities, to apply.
The Path Fellow works closely with the Head of Learning & Public Practice at the Wexner Center for the Arts and will be involved in work situated within the department of Learning & Public Practice.
Interest or experience in arts education, arts integrated teaching and learning, or community-based arts programming, is required.
The Path fellowship includes :
- Support for artistic development.
- A professional arts position housed in Learning & Public Practice, with intersections, projects, and programming touchpoints in community programs, K-12 school programs, and gallery education program areas at the Wexner Center for the Arts.
- Access to a variety of artists and arts professionals.
- Behind-the-scenes access to arts organization operations and programming.
- Opportunities to explore a range of arts career paths.
- Development and training, mentorship, and support in fostering useful professional skills for artists interested in careers in or with arts and cultural organizations.
- Resume / CV and career development support.
- Valuable and hands-on work experience in a variety of settings within public and community-based arts programming.
- An introduction or deepened exposure to the arts and cultural profession, cultural institutions, and the business of cultural production.
- Networking opportunities.
- Outreach, engagement, and establishing connections within the central Ohio nonprofit and arts and culture community.
Required Qualifications :
- Applicant must be an artist (visual, literary, performing, media, multidisciplinary, etc.) and have a creative or artistic practice they are pursuing professionally.
- Applicant must evidence an interest in public engagement, education, teaching, and learning.
- Applicant must be open and willing to work with the general public, including youths and adults of all ages.
- Applicant must have some professional written and verbal communication skills and be able to work independently and manage multiple projects.
- This fellowship is full-time. Students currently enrolled in an academic program are not be eligible to apply. Current student applicants must have completed their academic program by the start of the fellowship.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Consideration will be given to candidates with or without a degree. However, graduate or professional training, an undergraduate degree, and / or equivalent work / training experience is a plus.
- Expressed and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the arts, with a particular interest in teaching and learning and working with the public.
Other areas of interest might include arts service agencies, publications, dance companies, museums, theaters, performing arts or community cultural centers, etc.
- Expressed and demonstrated interest in equity, access, inclusion, and social justice and the role the arts can play in inclusion and equity work.
- Ability to work up to 30-40 hours per week (which may include evenings and some weekends) during the course of the fellowship.
