POSITION : Speech Pathologist / Therapist PRN
POSITION SUMMARY : Functions under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Physical Medicine. Assumes the responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides speech and language evaluations and treatments in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care.
The speech pathologist / therapist may also be assigned to orient staff and students. They may also assume the duties and responsibility of the supervisor in the absence of that individual.
Job Duties / Responsibilities :
Provides patient care services of all ages from neonate to geriatric including :
- Performs patient assessment
- Establishes plan of care
- Provides care in accordance with physicians’ orders and established plan of care
- Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, care giver or significant other and provides education to meet those needs
- Plans for discharge
- Communicates with patient, family, care givers, significant others and members of the healthcare team to promote maximum benefit of care
- Assesses the effectiveness of the treatment given and modifies treatment to achieve goals
- Utilizes a multidisciplinary approach in treatment planning, goal setting and patient care

Qualifications
EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :
Minimum of Master’s level SLP / CF and current state licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist
Physical and Sensory Requirements :
- Ability to read and write in English
- Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others
- Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
- Ability to respond to pages
- Ability to lift and transfer patients exerting pounds of force occasionally, and / or pounds frequently
- Ability to tolerate prolonged walking and standing
- Ability to have sensory skills to differentiate clinical signs and symptoms
- Ability to deal with a variety of stressful situations including emergency response to patient incidents
