Job Summary
The Learning Support Specialist, under general supervision, attends and assists assigned classes and courses and provide strategic academic support for students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Apply demonstrated academic best practices for assisting students with specific subjects and assignments, including writing research papers, giving presentations, developing study habits, managing test anxieties, and organizing class notes.
Communicate closely with faculty and tutors on student issues and academic matters.
Identify and conduct targeted intervention for at-risk students.
Collect, track, and monitor data on student progress for the deans.
Maintain confidential records.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities
Teaches non-credit courses and skill improvement workshops.
Maintains and tracks student progress in non-credit classes.
Instruct students who are at-risk, referred for Early Alert, and on probation.
Organize and instruct in the Bridge programs.
Conduct workshops to support learning skills and studying strategies.
Collect data and analyze the effectiveness of instructions.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
Experience - One year of related experience in specialized content area.
Preferred Education and Experience
Advanced degree in the related field of support.
Experience in tutoring, teaching, working with college students.
Experience working with at-risk adults.
Experience working with freshmen through senior year.
Experience in clinical practices for related majors.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of :
Word processing and spreadsheet applications

Instructional best practices and assessment of learning outcomes

Prior experience in data collection and analysis
Familiar with Texas Success Initiative (TSI)
Ability to :
Work with first-time freshmen.
Work with at-risk college students.
Provide strong communication skills with faculty and staff.
Licensing / Professional Certification None.

This position generally does not supervise employees.
Other Requirements
Must be able to work on weekends and maintain flexible work schedule during peak enrollment and advising periods.

Salary : $17.54 / hourly
