Full-time, benefits eligible, non-exempt 1.0 FTE

M-F, 7a-3 : 30p / 40 hours / week

Minimum pay : $20 / hr+ based on experience

The GI Procedure Room Technician is responsible for performing various technical and supportive tasks to assist with daily procedure room clinical operations.

This role will perform routine and delegated duties according to hospital and departmental policies.

Responsibilities

1. Functions as the technical team member for GI procedural cases :

a. Responsible for set up of all procedural equipment and supplies, including the video system, endoscopes and associated equipment.

b. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation and physician preference to anticipate the needs of the procedural team.

c. Efficiently turns the procedure room over between cases, including all anesthesia equipment and supplies to keep surgical / procedure time to a minimum.

d. Assists the procedural physician / registered nurse with preparing, labeling, and sending lab work, biopsy specimens, and specialized cultures / pathology specimens.

Logs pathology specimens accurately to include all required information.

e. Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia equipment to provide support with setup and turn over as well as trouble-shooting machines / equipment.

f. Demonstrates competence and performs decontamination, cleaning / disinfection, and storage of endoscopic instrumentation and equipment adhering to all infection control policies and CDC guidelines.

g. Communicates pertinent information to anesthesia / GI physician / RN as indicated to provide quality patient care.

h. Obtains supplies from Central Processing / PYXIS / supply room as requested by the procedure team and restocks to assigned par levels.

Checks expiration dates and maintains documentation.

2. Assists with endoscopic procedures with and without general anesthesia in the GI procedure room, Main OR, Surgery Center, and other locations within the hospital under the direct supervision of the physician / RN.

3. Participates in research activities conducted in the procedures rooms or in data / specimen collection in studies involving GI patient care.

4. Cross-trains to function in PCA role in the procedure room and clinic.

5. Performs all other duties as assigned

Special Considerations

  • GI procedure room techs are authorized to handle, transport and store medications necessary to support the anesthesia practitioner practice in the GI procedure room.
  • They are not permitted to handle or access any controlled substances.

Qualifications

Knowledge , skills and abilities required

1. High school graduate

2. OR experience preferred

3. Basic computer skills.

4. Flexibility and adaptability, customer service skills

5. Theoretical and clinical ability to conform to standards of infection control

7. Understanding of biomedical equipment (anesthesia & GI procedures)

Minimum Physical Requirements

1. Must be able to see, hear, speak English, read English and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation (34-66%).

2. Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, kneel, reach overhead, and independently lift up to 25 lbs (0-33%).

3. Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and / or equipment (0-33%).
