RN CVOR Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular surgical patients within the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR). The RN supports surgeons throughout complex procedures, manages sterile technique, anticipates equipment and supply needs, and ensures safe intraoperative care. The RN is responsible for patient assessment, preparation, and coordination with anesthesia, surgical teams, and postoperative care units. This role requires strong clinical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to respond quickly during critical surgical events.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing cardiovascular surgical procedures.
Assist surgeons by anticipating procedural steps and managing instruments, equipment, and supplies.
Maintain sterile technique and ensure accurate setup of CVOR equipment, including DaVinci XI systems when applicable.
Perform patient assessment, preparation, and handoff communication across perioperative phases.
Monitor patient status during procedures and communicate significant changes promptly.
Coordinate with anesthesia, perfusion, surgical technicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
Document all intraoperative nursing care in the electronic medical record.
Support instrumentation checks, equipment troubleshooting, and safety protocols.
Participate in call and call-back assignments as scheduled.
Maintain adherence to infection control, patient safety, and OR standards.
Qualifications
Current California RN License preferred.
Current BLS (AHA) certification.
Current ACLS (AHA) certification.
Minimum 3 years of CVOR experience required.
Prior acute care hospital experience required.
DaVinci XI experience preferred.
Shift Details
5 8-hour shifts , Monday Friday.
Shifts vary between 0630 1500 and 1045 1900 .
Call requirements :
2 3 on-call days per week depending on experience and case volume.
Every other weekend on-call rotation.
