Job description

Administrative Assistant II

The current vacancy is with the Department of Labor & Industrial Relations in Downtown. This job posting will remain open until applications are received. Please apply immediately as this recruitment may close at any time.

This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast-tracking qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawai'i.

Applications received for this recruitment will be reviewed for legal authorization to work in the US. All applicants who pass the legal authorization review will be referred to the hiring department for consideration and an initial review of the application.

Applicants who meet the initial review requirements at the departmental level may be contacted by the hiring program for an interview. All applicants interviewed by the hiring program will be notified of their selection or non-selection by the department.

The application referral and potential interview conducted at the departmental level does not imply that applicants have met all minimum qualification requirements. A thorough review of all applications received will be conducted by the Department of Human Resources Development and all applicants will be notified of the final disposition.

Salary : $4,054 to $5,133 per month (SR-14, Step C to I). Note : Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements :

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement :

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the state shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.

General Clerical Experience : Six months of work experience which involved performing tasks which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling and arithmetic; and the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and speak and write simply and directly.

Specialized Clerical Experience : Two years of progressively responsible typing and / or substantive clerical work which demonstrated possession of, in addition to the knowledge and abilities noted under General Clerical Experience above, knowledge of common office appliances and equipment and the ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems and to perform secretarial tasks as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.

Keyboarding / Computer Skill : Some positions require keyboarding proficiency and / or the ability to use computers and word processing and / or other software applications. These positions require the ability to keyboard / type 40 net words per minute, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Shorthand / Dictation Skill : Some positions required the ability to take and transcribe dictation accurately at 80 net words per minute, with or without reasonable accommodation. Your proficiency may be tested by the appointing authority. Failure to demonstrate at least the minimum keyboarding / computer shorthand and / or dictation skill as noted above may result in corrective action, including the removal of your name from the list of eligible for employment consideration.

Driver's License : Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Lift and Carry : Some positions require the ability to lift and carry objects of varying weights with or without reasonable accommodation.

Substitutions Allowed : Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements, will apply.
