Position Concept
The Telecommunicator I performs public safety communication tasks involving the reception of emergency and non-emergency telephone calls in the Joint Communications Center. Members in this assignment may be required to act as a trainer.
The most important and essential job function of the position is attitude which includes the following : interacting positively and cooperating with co-workers, responding politely to customers, working as a team member, functioning under intense time pressure and responding in a positive manner to supervision.
The Telecommunicator I may perform other related duties and tasks, as required and shall have the physical, mental and emotional abilities to perform the essential job duties of the position.

Essential Functions
Operate computer
Operate telephone system and TDD
Initiate a public safety field response, provide information, make referrals or take messages
Provide emergency medical / fire / law enforcement pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions to callers reporting emergencies
Maintain professional training
Process the call for service or assistance in accordance with established procedures
Complete required forms, documents, computer fields, etc. accurately and quickly
Education, Professional Certification or License
High School or GED
FCIC / NCIC certification within one year of employment
Successfully complete Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) Certification within six months of employment (as required for position assignment)
Successfully complete CPR, and TDD training within six months of employment
Complete FEMA Incident Command System courses (ICS 100, 200, 242,700, and 802)
Successful completion of positional exams
Complete the DOH State Certification course for Emergency 911 Telecommunicators or obtain within six (6) months
Professional Experience
Demonstrated keyboarding proficiency of 35 wpm with no more than 5 errors
