Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) is a unique electric generation and distribution cooperative, serving 59 communities across Alaska. Our operation spans 46 small, isolated grids relying on a mix of diesel, wind, and solar generation to power 11,513 meters and maintain 515 miles of distribution line.
As an Accounting Specialist at AVEC, each day is a dynamic journey filled with tasks that keep the financial heart of our cooperative beating strong. A typical day might include reviewing data entry and payment batches prepared by the AP Clerk, preparing business expense reimbursement and per diems, reconciling vendor statements to financial data, and managing miscellaneous accounts receivable such as for billable construction. As the Accounting Specialist, you will maintain positive relationships with vendors including promptly addressing inquiries and discrepancies, adhere to payment terms and internal controls, investigate and resolve discrepancies or issues related to invoices, purchase orders, and payments, and you will coordinate with internal departments as needed.
Requirements for the Accounting Specialist are a High School diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience in bookkeeping and / or accounting. The ideal Accounting Specialist will have strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and precision, exceptional organization and time management abilities, a solid understanding of utility accounting principles, complex GL strings, and cost center allocation. Additional desired qualities are strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities and flexibility to work in an environment with short deadlines and frequent interruptions.
Pay and benefits include pay starting at $27.51 per hour and is dependent upon experience. Paid leave starting at 21 days per year and we also offer 8 paid Holidays plus 2 Floating Holidays and 1 Birthday Holiday.
