Position overview

Position title :

Mathematics Pre-six Lecturer

Salary range :

A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $9,138-$13,029 (based on salary points 2-14). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year.

Percent time :

Variable, based on the course load assigned.

Anticipated start :

Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2025 through fall quarter 2026. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment.

Position duration :

Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

Position description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach various courses. Course topics include, but are not limited to, upper division and graduate level algebra, analysis and geometry, as well as, lower division areas of algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. Outstanding candidates with experience to teach courses in one or more of the above areas are encouraged to apply.

The campus is especially interested in candidates who are committed to ensuring opportunity for students of all backgrounds and to fostering a community of inclusion and belonging through their teaching and other assigned duties. Appointments are temporary positions with end dates and generally made one quarter at a time, based on the changing curricular needs of the Department.

Internal candidates will be given priority consideration.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications

(required at the time the application is submitted)

Master's degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in mathematics or a closely related field (e.g., applied mathematics, mathematical statistics, etc.).

Prior teaching experience at the collegiate or university level, as an instructor or teaching assistant.
