Research Laboratory Technician - Integrated Health, Surveillance, & Diagnostics-Sample Analysis
Basic Function
The senior technician-level staff member reports administratively to a section manager or higher technical-level staff member.
This staff member may also report to a project manager or group leader. This is a 3rd shift schedule, Friday Tuesday 8 : 00pm-5 : 00am.
This position will receive vital experience with sample preparation, molecular and immunological analysis, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal regulations, QA / Safety / SOPs, and instrumentation.
Essential Functions
Performs processing and analysis of environmental samples for the presence of potential biological threat agents. Assists with sample in-processing, DNA extraction and preparation and data entry into laboratory information management system and sample management system, and general laboratory housekeeping duties.
Environmental sample processing and analysis including standard manual DNA extraction using a Qiagen kit procedure and
critical reagent production and inventory.
Success Factors
- Experience in an appropriate laboratory environment, including sample preparation, instrumentation, computer databases, and safety.
- Ability to follow SOPs, conduct work with limited supervision and provide accurate and complete documentation
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and be well organized, analytical, and flexible to changing priorities
- Knowledge of basic laboratory skills & detail-oriented
- PC skills and ability to learn new software and systems
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years of college or relevant experience.
- Ability to work a 3rd shift Friday Tuesday 8 : 00pm-5 : 00am schedule and holidays as needed
- U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain a government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in biology, bioprocessing, or related field
