At Houston Methodist the Respiratory CarePractitioner (RCP) position is responsible for performing routinerespiratory care procedures as assigned varying in complexity whichinclude but are not limited to preparation administration andmonitoring of medication and treatment modalities and gas therapyventilator support spirometry and assistance with bronchoscopy.
This position may perform diagnostic testing of the cardiacrespiratory system as appropriate. As a member of the directpatient care team the RCP position provides direct assistance tophysicians and other care health professionals with respiratorycarerelated procedures within the scope of the professionallicensure.
This position delivers exceptional patient care andadheres to standards and guidelines established by respiratory andregulatory agencies and Houston Methodist to ensure optimal patientsafety and customer service.

SERVICEESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performsrespiratory care to include but not limited to : arterial blood gasand analysis pulse oximetry spirometry and flow volume loops lungvolume determination airway resistance measurement breath diffusioncapacity bronchoprovocation testing maximal inspiratory andexpiratory pressures bronchodilator administration diagnosticradiology procedures.
Prepares administers and monitors treatmentmodalities and medication delivery. Implements monitors andevaluates ventilatorsupport
- Performs otherprocedures and tests as needed and if assigned such asElectrocardiograms Holters and Arterial BloodGas
- Provides care for thephysical needs of patients by executing various respiratory careconcepts to maximize performance which includes positioningphysiology procedure preparation and technical factors.
Modifiestechnical factors to achieve desired results and recognizescomplications / limitations associated with certain procedures.
Proactively identifies how to address these for optimumoutcomes
Uses peertopeeraccountability to contribute towards improving department score forpatientsatisfaction

Troubleshootscalibrates and performs preventive maintenance and quality controlon all equipment and analyzers per department guidelinesdocumenting activities.
Assembles prepares cleans and operatesbronchoscopy equipment monitoring equipment and accessories inaccordance with manufacturing recommendations and departmentguidelines. Reportsmalfunctions
Providesdirect assistance to physicians performing tests as orderedassessing and assuring quality acceptability and reliability ofresults;
takes corrective action and involves others as neededtoward achievement of thisend
Contributes toidentification of corrective action and improvement activities andto meet department and hospital targets for quality and safetyfocusing on the task at hand and reporting near misses and inputingerrors promptly into Patient Safety Net to improve processes andidentify trends
