Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we’re addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software‑defined vehicles around the world.

The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we’ll map a new way forward. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.

Role Summary

Join us in building the foundational hardware and software platforms that power the next generation of electric vehicles. You will operate at the critical intersection of hardware and software, ensuring our engineering teams have the stable, well‑supported environments they need to innovate.

Partnering closely with the Platform Integration Team, you will manage the complex dependencies of early‑stage development. This includes orchestrating hardware bring‑up, managing the allocation and readiness of vital test assets (from development boards to full vehicles), and planning for the resources needed to achieve program goals. While the software program team defines the "what" and "when" at a high level, you will be responsible for the "how," driving the intricate, hands‑on activities within the integration domain that make those high‑level milestones possible.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive plan for test asset allocation and readiness, including development boards, hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) systems, and prototype vehicles.
  • Drive early hardware bring‑up and validation schedules, ensuring that software teams have stable and well‑characterized hardware platforms for development.
  • Proactively identify, track, and mitigate cross‑domain dependencies between ECU hardware revisions, firmware versions, and vehicle software builds.
  • Collaborate with the Platform Integration Team and engineering leads to forecast and plan for resource needs, including personnel, equipment, and lab space.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for tracking low‑level integration blockers, coordinating between hardware, firmware, software, and test teams to resolve issues and maintain velocity.
  • Translate high‑level program milestones into actionable integration tasks and communicate status, risks, and blockers from the integration teams back to the main software program.
  • Manage the integration and release of software and firmware across different hardware versions, from initial prototyping through production.
  • Understand the technical architecture and underlying systems of multiple domains to effectively anticipate challenges, facilitate technical discussions, and make informed decisions.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other related technical fields with 5+ years relevant experience.
  • 7+ years of Technical or Engineering Program Management experience in programs involving complex hardware and software integration.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing hardware test assets, lab resources, or vehicle fleets.
  • Strong understanding of automotive hardware, ECU development lifecycles, and vehicle electrical architectures.
  • Experience with the complexities of early‑stage product development, with an ability to drive clarity in ambiguous environments.
  • Familiarity with hardware bring‑up, firmware flashing, and low‑level software / hardware debugging processes is a significant plus.
  • Proven track record with project planning, progress tracking, and risk management, particularly for hardware‑dependent software.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, with the ability to bridge the gap between hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Pay Disclosure

Salary Range / Hourly Rate for California Based Applicants : $167,400 - $209,300 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).
