Summary of Responsibilities
The Business Intelligence (BI) Lead / Manager is a hands-on role responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing business intelligence dashboards, datasets, and reports that drive operational performance across the organization. This position combines technical expertise in Power BI with team leadership to deliver high-quality, actionable insights.
The BI Lead / Manager will manage a small team, resolve BI support tickets, and directly build and troubleshoot dashboards, data models, and integrations. A strong understanding of Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and basic data warehousing is required. Familiarity with property management systems such as Yardi, RealPage, or OneSite is preferred.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys doing the work - not just directing it - and thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.
Primary Responsibilities and Objectives
Power BI Development & Support
- Design, build, and maintain dashboards, reports, and datasets using Power BI.
- Develop and optimize DAX measures, Power Query transformations, and visuals.
- Configure and manage Row-Level Security (RLS) within Power BI.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Power BI or data-related issues, including end-user support tickets.
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor a small team of BI Analysts or Developers (2-3 team members).Oversee workload prioritization, provide feedback, and ensure timely delivery of BI solutions.Promote a collaborative team culture focused on learning and excellence.Data Integration & Optimization
Integrate data from multiple sources, including Yardi, RealPage, OneSite, and other systems.Partner with IT and Data teams to maintain stable, high-performing data pipelines and refresh schedules.Optimize data models and BI performance through best practices and automation.Stakeholder Collaboration
Partner with Operations, Accounting, and Performance Management teams to identify BI needs.Translate business questions into functional dashboards and analytical insights.Train and support internal stakeholders to ensure adoption and effective use of dashboards.Governance & Process Improvement
Maintain Power BI workspace organization, security, and documentation.Drive process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and reduce manual work.Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across reports and models.Education and Experience
High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.2 - 5 years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or reporting.2+ years of hands-on Power BI experience including DAX, Power Query, and data modeling.1 - 2 years of experience leading or mentoring BI professionals.Strong understanding of SQL, ETL processes, APIs, and basic data warehousing concepts.Experience with property management analytics or systems (Yardi, RealPage, OneSite) preferred.Microsoft Power BI certification is a plus.Skills and Requirements
