Phlebotomist I - FTNights
The Phlebotomist I performs phlebotomy andother specialized specimen collection procedures for patients bothin inpatient and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities include theprocessing organizing labeling and transporting of specimens aswell as the input and extraction of data with the LaboratoryInformation System.
Provides for patient care while performingduties independently handling patient care and technical issues asthey arise within the scope of their job.
Also performs clericaltasks such as answering the phones and faxing lab reports asneeded.

Collaborates with all members of the patientcare team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent patientcare information and data in a comprehensivemanner.
SERVICE ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS
- Followsestablished procedure for collecting and processing biologicalspecimens. Handles STAT samples expediently. Performs specialcollections / procedures as directed and according to competency andpolicies / procedures
- Performsa variety of Laboratory Information System functions. Filesrequisitions reports and other pathology materialsappropriately
- Organizesworkload and sets priorities. Utilizes all available work time byassisting others and performing additionaltasks
QUALITY / SAFETYESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performsand documents daily check off duties and restocks supplies in thework area asassigned
- Performsinteractive patient ID. Identifies patient and labels specimencorrectly 100% of the time using two patient identifiers.
Accurately processes organizes orders labels and transportsspecimens for laboratorytesting
- Recognizes andinitiates action to resolve requisition and specimen labelingdiscrepancies. Recognizes problems investigates the cause takesremedial action or escalates to leader and notifies management forfollowup
- Maintains a safeenvironment within the Laboratory following all policies andprocedures for safety hazardous materials security and emergencypreparedness

- Adjustswork schedule to accommodate departmental / organizational needs.Appropriately utilizes the time recordingsystem
- Uses departmentresources / equipment / supplies properly andefficiently

EDUCATION
- HighSchool diploma or equivalent education (examples include : GEDverification of homeschool equivalency partial or full completionof postsecondary educationetc.)
- Course inphlebotomy / venipuncturepreferred
WORKEXPERIENCE
- 3 months ofphlebotomy work or training experience required which must includedata entry and specimenhandling
- Neonatal / pediatricphlebotomy experiencepreferred
